macdogmom,
The guys really enjoyed just walking around Rome but we live in a small (not walkable) town.
-Walking down tiny little alleyways (which still fit small cars and scooters) and emerging on Piazzas.
-Sitting on various fountain steps, having hot chocolate or gelato & people watching.
One night our older son, sat at the rooftop bar and had a beer with DH. Not a big deal to 20 & 25 yo but memorable for an 18 yo.
Of the tourist sites, both sons liked Ostia Antica & the Colosseum best. In addition, the younger one really enjoyed the Underground Rome tour.

Leely2,
Walking was great but I admit cabbing did help at times.
I really wanted DSs to find a comfort zone so that they would want to go back. We have traveled a lot in the US/Canada but our only other international trips have been to Panama to visit family. That is, of course, different because they act as a buffer (speak fluent spanish, know the city, etc...).

LCI,
It was delightful and we ALL thank you!
My younger son is currently refusing any food resembling Roman cuisine because "I don't want to ruin my memory" of the delicious meals we shared

thanks eyemom & LCI.

sounds like it'd be a splurge meal for us if we went there, even at Feb prices, and only eating two/three courses. [DH and I tend to have starter and main, DS main and pud as he doesn't like salted/preserved things [except olives...which is weird]. he eats his pud while we have coffee, which he doesn't like either.

perhaps one night!
