Christmas in Munich
 

We'll be in Munich this Christmas with a 6 year old. Does anyone have any child friendly places to suggest we visit?

Not knocking Tom, but given the options so far, I'd bet the 6 year old would not be that impressed with the beautiful churches in Munich. Just a little too young to appreciate the fantastic everything inside the churches.<BR><BR>The bands, the beer and the bells....that's another story.<BR><BR>Father Time

Robin, Father Time is right - but there aren't many alternatives.<BR>You could take hime to the Deutsche Museum where there are some "hands-on" exhibits to play with.<BR>Or ask at the hotel where you could go ice-skating.<BR>I'm not sure if there are horse-drawn carriage trips roung the Englische Garten in Winter.<BR>And until Christmas Eve lunchtime there's the Christmas Market.<BR>Bear in mind that on Christmas Eve EVERYTHING closes. Christmas Day is a bit better.

Ditch the kid or go somewhere child freindly like spain

The Teddy Bear Museum--they are celebrating the 100th year of the teddy.<BR><BR>Ride on the U/S; I don't know any kids who don't enjoy a train ride. (and the escalators)<BR><BR>Watch the Glockenspeil.<BR><BR>Go to the Hofbrau and listen to the band.<BR><BR><BR>Your best bet is to ask or e-mail your hotel and find out where they like to take their kids.<BR><BR>

Do they celebrate Christmas on 12/25 like in the U.S. or is it celebrated on St. Nick day 12/6 or even on King's Day 1/6???<BR><BR>I thought that the German's celebrated Christmas at different time than those in the US?<BR><BR>Also, if they do celebrate on 12/25, what should one expect to see in Munich on King's Day, 1/6?

Thanks Meg for some great suggestions. Ice skating would be a big hit. Since we'll be in Munich for 10 days, we have time for some day trips. And as "jjj" suggested, train rides would go over big. Does anyone have ideas for some day trips by train?

The Germans celebrate on the 12/24

In Munich<BR>Dec 24th - everything closes early<BR>25th - everything closed all day<BR>26th - everything closed all day<BR>Jan 6 - everything closed all day<BR>People celebrate at home and nothing special goes on during these days.<BR><BR>Some restaurants are probably open through the holidays.
