Christmas in London with children
Hello! We'll be in London Dec. 23 - Dec. 29 with two children, ages 8 and 10. I realize the London will be quiet at that time, but that will be a nice respite after eight nights in Paris and before four nights in Dublin. I'm getting overwhelmed with hotel options and hoping all y'all can help.
I'd like to be located in a good location that will be conducive to walking to restaurants and interesting outdoor sites as I know that there is no public transit on Dec. 25 and limited transit on Dec. 26. I know that it will be expensive - something in the range of £200 - £250 per night in a quad or two doubles ( or any configuration that will keep the kids adjoining) would be lovely. Any suggestions for areas in the city to focus on given my wish list? Would consider increasing budget to £300 per night, but it would need to be pretty spectacular.

How about an apartment? 6 nights ought to be easy enough to book an apartment for.
Have you thought about neighborhoods? I think something very very central, near theaters and large hotels might be best because of the transport thing. Maybe pretty much smack in the center of the West End?

even though not appropo to your question do not miss the annual Tudor Christmas festivities at Hampton Court Palace, home of Henry VIII and several of his wives. Kids will love it!

I'd definitely rent a flat -- Even if you had to take one for seven nights and eat the extra night it would be cheaper than a quad or two adjoining doubles and you'd have much more space plus a kitchen and washer/dryer,
Most one bedroom flats will sleep 4 w/ a sofa sleeper in the lounge.

We rented a flat in Fitzrovia that suited our needs and budget and it worked out well. I'm sure there are plenty of options that would work. Info in my TR:

Thank you all for your replies! I think that we will do an apt. Thank you for suggesting the West End - I've been struggling to figure out a good spot. The Fitzrovia apt. Is already booked (rats!) but I'll keep looking. And thank you for the suggestion for the festivities at Hampton Court! It was already on my list but haven't started that research yet.
