Christmas in Ireland

We're spending 7 days in Ireland, 12/20-12/27
Any suggestions for spending Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Many places are closed at that time. I imagine Dublin would be a logical choice, but maybe there's a a quaint place someone else has experienced that would be memorable. While we will in B/B's most of the time. We can "splurge" for the holidays.
Is Christmas celebrated in Ireland in a similar manner as the states?

Tim,

You just have got to try Tinakilly House outside Dublin in Co. Wicklow. Accessable to the end of the driveway by bus. It is expensive but worth it and the last Christmas under the current owners - midnight service, candle light carols, open fires, the works or try Killarney in Co. Kerry - the Great Southern Hotel is wonderful too. Christmas in Ireland is magical. Go down Grafton street in Dublin on Christmas Eve and watch the last minute shopping craze and have a coffee in Bewleys. Christmas in ireland is a long holiday. Lots of parties etc. Last from 23th/24th to 2nd Jan or so. There has been an additional holiday added this year.
Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I was looking for.

I just returned from a trip to Ireland, and I have to say that Killarny was my favorite. I however stayed at the Clarion Hotel Randles Court which only has 37 rooms, and was a turn of the century rectory that was recently redecorated and turned into a beautiful unique hotel. The jaunting cart rides out to Muckross House in Killarny are wonderful and I imagine even more so at Christmas.
