Christmas Dinner in Rome
 

My family and I will be in Rome for Christmas. Could anyone recommend restaurants for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners? We would like for at least 1 to be a traditional Italian Christmas dinner. I know that many will be closed for the holidays and would like to secure a reservation before arriving. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

We were there last Christmas and returning this year the day after.

Many restaurants do close on the eve and the day, but you will still have a substantial number of choices.

Our tastes may not reflect your own. For Christmas eve we found a neat little place near our hotel that did not require reservations, the food was great and the weather was okay, so we ate outside.

On Christmas, we munched and sampled all kinds of stuff from various little trattorias all day long, so by the nighttime we were full.

How many are traveling? We have 9 this year and took two apts.

Most Restaurants close early on Christmas Eve. You may need to get a reservation for dinner. Usually there is a price fixe menu. Christmas day is no problem. Most things are open. We did what Dave did and got things to bring back to the hotel and we ate on the rooftop. I always recommend the Papal Blessing om Christmas day.

We spent Christmas 2006 in Rome. We asked our hotel for recommendations and they made us reservations at San Gallo on Christmas Eve, where we had a fabulous 8-course tasting menu. Pricey, but worth it! As I recall it is in the Piazza Navonna/Pantheon area.

We opted for a late lunch instead of dinner on Christmas Day and we ate outside (temps were in the 50s but with heat lamps it was very comfortable) at a restaurant right on Campo di Fiori. We had a reservation but others came without reservations and were able to get tables. It was standard fare but the atmosphere was wonderful.

Thank you for the suggestions. There are 5 of us traveling (all adults) and reserved an apt as well. We all enjoy food, wine, and a "local" dining experience. I will check out the suggestions. Thank you very much. Please keep them coming.

I would speak to the people at your hotel and ask them for suggestions on what might be open. You should make reservations as quickly as possible as anything decent will probably get full fast.
