Chopin Concerts in Warsaw
we're traveling to Warsaw in early May for 3 days with a tour of Eastern Europe and would like to hear a Chopin concert since it is his birthplace. The free concerts in the park there don't start until the middle of May. Does anyone know how to find out if there are other Chopin concerts ? Thanks

Maybe this article will give you some ideas?
http://query.nytimes.com/search/arti...urope%2fPoland Quote: THE sleepy village west of Warsaw, Zelazowa Wola, where Frédéric Chopin was born in 1810, is a natural destination for music lovers. It also makes an ideal day trip for anyone eager to explore the older face of Poland that lies just outside the country's fast-changing capital. .... The Chopin Society inaugurated the weekly concerts at the house in 1954. The concerts -- which are so well loved that even during martial law imposed by the Communist government from 1981 to 1983 they were allowed to continue -- are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. During an average week 500 to 2,000 people, many of them foreigners, visit the grounds. In 1999, the 150th anniversary of Chopin's death, the number of visitors grew to 3,300 a week. etc. |
Hi,
The season in Zelazowa Wola starts May 2. The season at the Lazienki Park and Palace complex start on May 16. From Warsaw Voice (http://www.warsawvoice.com/): "Cyber-Chopin 25 February 2004 The result of a year of work by a professional team of graphic artists, journalists, communications specialists and computer scientists is the Infochopin service, comprised of the website www.infochopin.pl (available in English), Serwis Chopinowski electronic bulletin and a printed guide entitled Informator Chopinowski. Infochopin, or the International Chopin Information Center, aims to provide the widest possible range of information on Chopin events in Poland and elsewhere. Informational materials reach the offices of the Polish Tourist Organization (PTO), LOT Polish Airlines and business corporations. Infochopin will have a regular column in the Voice and the free monthly Follow Me published by LOT. The service is expected to facilitate work and contacts for organizers of Chopin events worldwide. A ceremonial opening of the InfoChopin program was graced by the Chopin Poster Exhibition, presenting posters from key Chopin events in the past. The exhibition is currently on display at the Mercure Fryderyk Chopin Hotel and will then move to the Frédéric Chopin Airport. More information is available at tel. (+48-22) 588-55-66." Also, check out the following websites: http://www.infochopin.pl/en/ http://www.explore-warsaw.com http://www.culture.pl/en/culture http://www.e-warsaw.pl/index.php http://tifc.chopin.pl/ I hope this helps. Have fun in Warsaw! |
