choice: climb mt. ste. victoire or take boat tour of calanques?

We are on a limited timeframe after leaving Aix. So we have to choose which way to spend the afternoon: Do we climb mt. ste victoire (we are cezanne fans), which takes about 3-4 hours, or do we head to cassis and take a calanques boat trip?

Depends whether you want a good physical workout or just want to hang loose and enjoy some lovely scenery. Both options are great...

A nice meal at a Cassis harbor resto, followed by the boat tour, was our choice - and we enjoyed it very much. To see what to expect, check our phototravelogue at http://www.kodakgallery.com/gallery/...08%3A540606391

Hey Mike -- what a GREAT tour via your slideshow. We are planning ours now, so seeing your total trip is helpful. It's particularly good because our time is limited, so seeing all the many villages helps assure us that we will be fine choosing just a few, since we cannot possibly hit as many as you did. And that Franklin and Marshall sweatshirt! We have laughed at that sight in several European cities over the last few years, including Moscow. We figure they like the name because it sounds so unmistakably American.

I also think you just need to decide which experience appeals to you -- a hike or not. I certainly have not climbed that mountain, but don't think climbing it has any particular connection to being an art fan (yes, I know he has that in some of his paintings, but it isn't going to be an artistic experience). Boat tour of the calanques is of some interest, but the boats get crowded so you may not have the best views, and I wouldn't put it in the don't miss category.

I did drive around parts of Mt Ste Victoire one day, though, but didn't climb it. YOu know you aren't allowed to hike it some months of the year, not sure when you are going.

If I had to pick one, I would probably pick Mont Ste Victoire, but I wasn't that impressed with Cassis.
