Chocolates
Where can I find the best chocolates in Italy? Can anyone recommend a great chocolate shop in Rome or Venice?
|
ttt -- because chocolate IS that important. Happy hunting -- wish I could help you with your quest.

Is Italy noted for chocolate?

I enjoyed Confetteria Moriondo & Gariglio (Via Pie di Marmo 21-22) in Rome, a fancy, old-fashioned chocolate shop. But my favorite is Peyrano in Torino.

Here are two recommendations from another board from two different people, one lives there, the other spends several months a year there:
"VizioVirtu`, a new chocolate shop. It is in San Polo - from the San Toma vaporetto stop you alk straight back, and when you have to turn right or left, turn left. The shop is a short way along on your right. If you reach the clothing store and the bridge, you have gone too far, but their windows are so spectacular, I cannot imagine anyone passing them. They have a web site:www.viziovirtu.com - [email protected]." "Ciocofaggioto is the other ciocolateria, just down from the Chiesa di San Trovaso (Accademia stop, head toward San Barnaba, on the fondamenta opposite the Taverna San Trovaso)." |
Sorry: Both the above recommendations are in Venice. Fairly obvious, though, since Venice is the only place that has vaporetto stops...

Torino, IMHO. Peyrano, Baratti & Milano, Stratta...the list goes on. |
I also purchased chocolate from Confetteria Moriondo e Gariglio and it was quite good if I recall.

I thought Perugia was famous for chocolates? Or, is that just a small town that put the name on their brand?

Caffarel is a famous Italian chocolate.

I have been told that Panucci chocolate is good but after 7 trips to Italy I have never seen it. Laura Panucci

My "Italian daughter" brought us back Baci chocolates from Perugia in a lovely heartshaped that were quite delicious.
