Chocolate shops in Rome?
 

My husband and I are going back to Rome the first week in December. I know that Rome, and Italy for that matter, is not known for their chocolate, but I was hoping that perhaps there is a chocolate shop in Rome that sells other European chocolates, such as Swiss or Belgian? I would like to bring some home to family members.

If you want Swiss or Belgian chocolate, just get them at the duty free shop the airport. Rome does have an exquisite shop that sells delicious and beautifully handmade chocolates, elegantly packaged. It's Confetteria Moriondo & Gariglio, Via Pie di Marmo 21, behind the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. Also try Valzani on Via del Moro.

Thank you Grinisa! I did read about Confetteria Moriondo & Gariglio and it sounds wonderful. I will write down the address (and print out a map on viamichelin). And thank you for your advice about the duty free shops at the airport. Last time we were in Rome, we flew out so early in the morning (6:00 am) that nothing was open so we didn't even check out the shops.

There's a shop behind the Piazza Navonna that sells all things made in Monasteries......a beautiful shop. They have several kinds of chocolates as well as hard candy, liquors, soaps, etc.

In the Prati district (NE of the Vatican) there are two really wonderful, large alimentari (food shops) right next to each other. Castroni is at 196 via Cola di Rienzo and Franchi is at 198. They stock imported food as well as loads of Italian specialties. I don't recall their chocolate stock in particular, but they're worth a visit even if you don't find exactly what you want.
