Chocolate Shops in Paris

I'm a chocoholic and would appreciate any suggestions on where to get some yummy chocolate in Paris. Thanks so much.

MademoiselleFifi Mar 23rd, 2007 07:24 PM

Grocery stores carry some of the same brands as the more upscale epiceries, at a fraction of the price. I like Poulain bars-- try the "76% noir."

Woody Mar 23rd, 2007 07:37 PM

We like Debauve & Gallais, 21 rue des Saints-Peres (6th Arr), tel 45 48 54 67.

We loved Maison du Chocolat.

Barbara_in_CT Mar 24th, 2007 02:20 AM

Don't miss Angelina's on Rue de Rivoli. The hot chocolate (Africaine) is a chocolate lover's nirvana.

I'm pretty sure, based on extensive research, that there is no BAD chocolate in Paris.

monet77 Mar 24th, 2007 06:37 AM

Michel Chaudun at 149 rue de l'Universite. Fascinating (and delicious) creations. The shop is like a little chocolate museum.

jkr2006 Mar 24th, 2007 07:29 AM

My vote goes to Mulot on rue de Seine in the 6th.......

Toupary Mar 24th, 2007 07:50 AM

Try Puyricard, on rue du Cherche-Midi in the 6th or avenue Rapp in the 7th. These are artisanal chocolates from the south of France, and they are excellent.

amwosu Mar 24th, 2007 07:53 AM

Jean Paul Hevin

My vote goes to La Maison du Chocolat's branch in the 16th, right off the Place Victor Hugo (and by the VH metro stop). A very elegant shop with excellent service in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris. Great cafes, restaurants and shops along the Ave. Victor Hugo as well.

Aleta Mar 24th, 2007 11:31 AM

Do I have the chocolate freast for you!
At La Maison du Chocolat at 52, rue Pierre Charron they serve a hot chocolate laced with rum that will be in my memory forever. You can choose from 4 chocolates, and I insist you go for the darkest chocolate. You will get a cup of it, plus a small pitcher with a second one. I don't even like hot chocolate usually because I don't like milk, but I LOVED my 2 cups and considered drinking some of my husband's little pitcher! It will cost 6.30 euros and you will not regret it.

Travelnut Mar 24th, 2007 12:49 PM

I like "L'Atelier du Chocolat de Bayonne" on rue de Rennes, although it probably is not quite as gourmet as some of the above recommendations (but then, neither am I..)

Travelnut Mar 24th, 2007 12:50 PM

What about the "Jeff de Bruges" stores..?

Toupary Mar 24th, 2007 02:03 PM

Jeff de Bruges is excellent, as is Léonidas, but they are Belgian chocolate.

Denise Acabo / A L'Etoile D'or
50 rue Fontaine, 9th Arr (very near the Moulin Rouge.) She's written up in Patricia Wells' Paris book.

neglex Mar 25th, 2007 12:28 PM

Try the "tarte au chocolat" from Maison du Chocolat-we got one and ate it in the Jardins du Luxembourg-What an experience! Enjoy

W9London Mar 25th, 2007 02:07 PM

Another vote for maison du chocolat. My favourite are the ones with marron mousse, and the box with prune and apricot(?) fillings.

My other favourite places are Pierre Herme on rue Bonaparte in the 6th and Jean-Paul Hevin on rue st-Honore (actually liked their cakes better).

Lawchick Mar 26th, 2007 02:21 AM

Pierre Marcolini - every time

Keren Mar 26th, 2007 04:23 AM

Denise Acabo's shop is at 30 rue Fontaine, not 50, it's well worth a visit, I won't forget the gianduia ball I bought from her, that was my lunch that day.
I also love Cluizel chocolate tablets which I always get for friends and family at le Bon Marché's food hall. Intense and wonderful.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful suggestions. I will be sure to hit the gym extra hard so I can indulge while I'm visiting!

acadia7911 Mar 26th, 2007 08:21 AM

Maison du Chocolat is definitely a big favorite of mine...fauchon has some really wonderful stuff as well! Have fun

karens Mar 26th, 2007 09:02 AM

Didn't read responses, but I got GREAT chocolate at Cocoa et Chocolat in Ile Ste. Louis.

I may have botched a lot of spelling in that last sentence..

tcreath Mar 26th, 2007 12:33 PM

My favorites are all mentioned above; Jean Paul Hevin (the truffles are to die for!), Cacao et Chocolat (on Isle St. Louis) and la Maison du Chocolat. I'm getting cravings just thinking about it!

Tracy

Truffaut Mar 26th, 2007 07:20 PM

Jean-Charles Rochoux in the 6th.

mlaffitte Mar 27th, 2007 03:53 AM

La Reine Astrid on rue Washington in the 8th.

schuba Mar 27th, 2007 04:44 AM

Loved Jadis et Gourmande, 39 R Archives. Every time.

sherm99 Mar 27th, 2007 05:10 AM

There are 2 shops on "Rue Clar" a couple of blocks from the Eiffel Tower

ilovetulips Mar 27th, 2007 07:33 AM

We went to a really neat mom and pop chocolate shop called La Mere de Famille. We were on a private tour of the city with Michael Osman and he went to this place often. The people were very kind and even let us taste some samples before buying some boxes.

Another Debauve & Gallais fan here. There's also a store in the 2eme at 33 rue Vivienne.

enroute Mar 27th, 2007 08:20 AM

Another vote for Pierre Herme on rue Bonaparte off St Germain

nwtraveler Mar 27th, 2007 09:52 AM

Another vote for La Mere de Famille. I absolutely loved their milk chocolate passion fruit ganache. I was only disappointed that I hadn't bought more, but that may have been a good thing since I couldn't stop eating them.

Lutetia Oct 18th, 2009 12:57 PM

There are too many fabulous chocolate shops in Paris to list them all, but you can find ideas for places you'd to visit on http://www.chocoparis.com
The site has maps, hours, Métro stations, etc.

Two recommendations for any chocoholic visiting Paris: A la Mère de Famille, at 35, rue du Faubourg Montmartre; and Michel Cluizel, at 201, rue Saint-Honoré.

spaarne Oct 18th, 2009 03:40 PM

I saw a chocolate shop on the Champs Élysées last year. It's on the right side as you walk from the Arc. Bring your gold.

Lutetia Oct 20th, 2009 12:52 PM

spaarne, would this be Maiffret, by any chance? Did you visit the store?

Lutetia Oct 21st, 2009 03:19 PM

Does anyone know if Maiffret is still open on the Champs Elysées (no 102)? The location is no longer listed on the company's web site, which is surprising, given the store's history.
It does appear on Google Street view, however.

spaarne Oct 22nd, 2009 07:03 AM

Lutetia,

I walked in and looked around in December. It was over my budget, as is everything on the Champs Élysées. I do not recall the name of the store.

Lutetia Oct 22nd, 2009 06:43 PM

Thank you, spaarne... Maiffret certainly is expensive. I'm guessing they may have closed the store on the Champs sometime in the past year.
