Chiusi Autumn Festival
Anyone been? I know it is a shot on the dark. Mrs Plastic and I are trying to decide if we should stay in Chiusi? Or avoid it because it would be too crowded? If you have gone or even stayed e night in Chiusi, what lodging would you recommend?

Will you have a car? If so, I recommend staying in the nearby countryside (Near Pienza or Montepulciano) and just drive over to Chiusi for the festival. I'm not a huge fan of Chiusi. I did stay one night there once- I'll look up the name of the hotel and get back to you.
Chiusi has a lower and an upper town. The upper town is the historic center and the best area to stay. The train station is in the lower town so without a car you will need to taxi up the hill (5 minutes).

I've no idea about the festival but thought it worth posting this link. My daughter and her husband stayed at this hotel earlier this heat and loved it.

Thanks for the responses. We will have a car and since we are touring the area we have decided to stay in a different area each night after we strike out from Florence.
The night we plan to be in the vicinity of Chiusi is the day we plan to spend touring a Brunello vineyard (which we have not selected yet either) so really we could stay anywhere in that general vicinity.
The only reason Chiusi is on our radar is we thought that festival might turn out to be one of those cool Tuscan experiences and a chance to mix with some locals....we like to plan for serendipity wherever possible
Loved the look of that Mr/Mrs Smith place but it is booked our night.

That would be an hour or so west from Chiusi as Brunello is the area around Montalcino. Pienza is about halfway between them.
Montalcino has a festival in Oct.

Castiglione d'Orcia has a mushroom/chestnut festival.
