Chip and Pin Prompts in Italian
I will soon be using my chip and pin Visa card in Italy. This will be my first European trip with a chip and pin card and I am wondering what the prompts are in Italian or will the system "know" to switch to English for me? In restaurants is there typically an option for adding a tip offered? I did manage to muddle though a Spanish language chip and pin reader in Buenos Aires last year but I was a bit uncomfortable about the guesswork involved. (Only once, the rest were swipe and sign.)

I used the same in Rome and the bank ATMs gave me the choice of a few languages on the first screen, one of which was English. From the next screen onwards there was no language problems! I didn't use any ATMs that weren't attached to bank branches so 'remote' machines may be different.

We have now returned. Our experience was that the prompts are all in Italian but the only input ever required was the PIN then the green button. No option to add a tip was ever available.
