I was in Copenhagen last week, and I would say thank goodness for chipped cards.
Here were the experiences.
TI at airport. Can still swipe, BUT it asked for a PIN! I don't know pins for my swipe cards. So used Andrews chip and pin card, but it did not ask for a PIN, it went ahead and printed a receipt to sign.
Taxi can take credit cards. But the machine had NO magnetic stripe capability. I used the Andrews card, and again it did not ask for a PIN, but printed out a receipt to sign.
Cafe, like Taxi, had a cc machine with NO swipe capability. Used B of A travel reward card with chip and signature. When the waitress inserted the card into the chipped slot, out came a receipt to sign.
hotel took my magnetic stripe only card. This was the only place I used a non-chippepd card.

Yes things are headed in that direction, that's for sure. Interesting of course that none of your emv cards asked for a pin. BofA card is advertised as chip and signature, Andrews while advertised as chip and pin as noted is really chip and signature with chip and pin capabilities. Get used to it. this is what is coming!

Thanks very much for the thread. I was putting this off in the hopes that the US companies would wise up, but have just booked a trip to Europe for this fall. I had remembered that Andrews was mentioned here as a source for chip and pin, but I had advised a friend to try that route and she said she was having difficulties, so I checked the forum for more recent advice.
My experience with Pen Fed was straightforward. I had to join a civilian support the troops organization for $15 (I applied online, didn't call), but then my membership went right through. I just got off the phone with a very helpful woman, and my credit card application was approved over the phone. I was told the card should arrive in a couple of weeks.
I had previously called Cap One, where I have had accounts for years, and got the same "no chip and pin" reply as everyone else. They sent me an online survey afterwards...
