Chios and Mesta Chios

After Cyclades and return to Athens looked at Chios and when selecting a date to depart Piraeus

Blue Star had a sailing 22.00 arriving 5.00 next day but it also said
Two ports Chios and Mesta Chios --this sailing to Chios as no sailing to Mesta Chios that date

What is difference in two ports and how would it affect accom and moving around island

Thanks for info

Those ferries from Piraeus also stop at Mytilini on Lesvos, but as far as I know only stop at Chios Town on Chios. Chios Town is also where the ferries to Çeşme in Turkey depart.

Mesta might be worth visiting, though. It is one of the mastic villages, where trees that produce masticha, the resin used for flavouring, are grown. Try some mastic ouzo while you are there.

Were I travelling from Athens to Chios I would fly. Ferries from Piraeus take ages, and don't run every day.

Just went to Chios, you either fly or take ferry to Chios Town. You can take a bus to visit Mesta, a traditional village in the mastic region. I always enjoy going there as you get a sense of what a medieval fortress was like. There were restaurants and a few shops open in early November. Pyrgi is also another interesting village on the same bus line but didn't have the restaurants or shops that Mesta has.
