Chinese restaurant in London

Hi, We are going to the Comedy Store in Picadilly Circus on a Friday night and are looking for a good value , good quality Chinese restaurant nearby to go for a meal prior to the comedy starting at 8 oc'clock. Any ideas please?

You're close to China Town.

Go there. It's a 10 minute walk.

(Isn't the Comedy Store in Leicester Square or has it moved?)

We've been down this path recently. Here's a good thread to review:

There aren't really any that are plain bad in China Town (apart from Mr Wu's buffet which is pony, if you want a buffet go half way up Brewer St and it's on the left - bloody good, yopu can't miss it).

In general you get what you pay for.

I know which ones I like but I'm afraid I haven't the foggiest what they're called.

One thing I have found is that the ones in Lisle St tend to be a bit better than the ones in Gerard St (ie they're just off the tourist bit), but there's not that much in it.

I'm a big fan of Bar Shu - a schezuan place that can be a bit on the challenging side - but is perfectly ok with its mainstream stuff.

Wong Keis is inexplicably popular but the last time I was in there I got in a fight with a waiter and was in danger of getting nicked (which would take some explaining). The staff are famously rude. Some people think it's part of the charm. It just makes my fists itch.

We ate at the Joy King Lau, 3 Leicester Street, recently and it was fine. Decent Chinese food, not too expensive. It's a narrow building but there about 4 floors. It's just off Leicester Square.

Kavey suggested Gerrard's Corner, met us there, and suggested dishes for us once, and then we had a small London GTG there another time. I'm not knowledgeable about Chinese restaurants, but I did enjoy both meals I had there.
