Chinatown in Paris - 13th arrondissement

There are 4 Chinatowns in Paris and at least 2 others in the suburbs. The one in the 13th arrondissement is by far the biggest and probably the most interesting -- perhaps also the ugliest in terms of architecture.

But for those who like to see exotic neighborhoods, it is fascinating. I made a photo essay about it last January (snow was on the ground!), which I recently resurrected for a new site. If you are interested, here it is : http://tinyurl.com/od8xtm

Thanks, Kerouac, I haven't been out there yet but those pictures have convinced me that I can duplicate the SF/Oakland Chinatown experience in the 13th.

As for the architecture, the absolute opposite can be found in the tiny Chinatown near Arts et Métiers on rue Bailly, rue Volta, rue au Maire. There's at least one noodle shop on the ground floor of a half-timbered building that I'd bet dates from the 16th century.

Yes, that is the oldest and least known Chinatown of Paris, even though it is in the center of town, because it is quite small. I think it is charming, but it only takes about 15 minutes to visit it. The Chinatowns of the 13th and Belleville can occupy hours of time.

"Hyperasiatique" - Love it!

I also love the viet-sandwiches. They are tastey and cheap anywhere in the world, but make the sandwich with a parisian baguette, and it is even better.

Thanks for the post.

Do you have the street address of the La Lune restuarant?

I didn't know this area existed. Thank you for sharing.

Analogue, La Lune is at 36 avenue de Choisy.

Thanks for sharing. I'm sending the link to my son who lived in the 13th arrondissement for a semester. I think his dorm was in rue de Tolbiac.
