Chillon Castle
I am getting the train to Lausanne arriving 11.37 am and hoping to visit Chillon Castle in Montreux before catching the 2.26 pm train to Interlaken. Can anyone tell me if I have enought time to see this wonderful castle. I believe there is a bus between Lausanne and Montreux which runs every ten minutes or so but if anyone who has real practical help in what, where, how , when, this would be really appreciated.

Hi Padong,
You ought to take the train right to Montreux; one leaves Lausanne at 11.39 to arrive at 12.09. From Montreux you can either walk to Chillon along the lake or take a city bus (bus #1 that runs along the main street parallel to the lake). You should have enough time from 12.09 to 2.26 to get to Chillon and to have a cup of coffee or so while enjoying the view. I'd guess that your 2.26 departure is from Montreux, right? I don't know of a bus that runs all the way from Lausanne to Montreux; even if there is one, the train will be faster. s |
Hi, Continue topping this until S' sees it. She's the person to answer your question with authority. I can tell you that there are trains from Lausanne to Montreux about every 10 minutes, taking from 20 to 30 minutes for the trip. It's the Montreux to Chillon that I can't address, because we always arrived by boat, and I think that's too slow for your timetable. S' will know if you can walk it from Montreux, or taxi or local bus. Good luck. It's a winner. J.

and there she is! Bon Voyage, S', I'm not supposed to be here. I've been experiencing major travel withdrawal this week. J.

You can walk along the lakefront to the castle from Montreux or you can take the city bus mentioned above or you can take a train to the station which is a short(er) walk to the castle. Thes latter trains do not urn nearly as often as the bus, however, which would be much faster than walking.
