Children in Provence, Côte d'Azur
 

<BR>I will spend my summer vacation with my 9 year old boy in Provence, C&ocirc;te d'Azur, ... <BR><BR>What places or activities do you suggest in those areas for children ?<BR>

Last year, we went in Italy (Milan, Pisa, Tuscany, Venice, San Marino, Dolomites, Lake Maggiore). We visited churches, lighted many candles,"nourished" pigeons, went up in campanile, took vaporetto, walked in gardens,went to the beaches, ate gelato, ...<BR><BR>Even if I have made some itinary for my next trip, I was just wondering if "you" had any special suggestions for kids in the area of "Provence-C&ocirc;te d'Azur"?<BR>I read about an "aquatic park" near Biot and Antibes, any comment?<BR>I thank you yourreply<BR>

My son spent most of the time at the beaches (Cannes, Juan les Pins, Ste. Maxime). If you are there on Bastille Day, your son will enjoy the fireworks in Cannes Harbour. Aside from the beach in Juan les Pins, there is a park near the beach with rides for children of that age (mini bumper cars, etc).<BR>My son also enjoyed going to the Fragonard perfume factory in Grasse and watch them make soap.

We took our two boys to France when they were 8 and 10. We stayed in St. Maxime. They enjoyed the beach, taking the ferry to St. Tropez, touring the old villages and the Abbey du Thoronet, strolling the markets, trying regional cakes and cookies from the bakeries, and most of all, the Bastille Day celebrations. We believe it's all in how you sell it to them. They didn't expect "Disneyland" and were content to explore and experience the culture of another country.

When we took our 9 and 12 year old daughters to Cote d'Azur, the highlight of the trip was the "tubing" offered in Cannes, where a motorboat takes you for a ride in the bumpy Mediterranean. They also thought the views from Eze were pretty cool. And they loved the food - moules/frites every day on the beach!

Deb: where did you stay in St. Maxime? Would you recommend it?

CJ<BR>We rented a 4 bdrm/2bath house about a block from the beach. It was in a small compound, had maybe 10 homes that shared a swimming pool. It had a full kitchen and washing machine, plus a great patio. The only problem - bed linens and towels were not provided. Luckily, my sister-in-law (who is originally from France) brought these items from her parents home. If you're interested in further information, let me know and I'll try to track it down.

j - Can you tell us a little more about the "tubing" -- including where you hire the motorboat? Sounds interesting.<BR><BR>MC, I agree, St Maxime is a really nice place for children. Great beach and family-oriented. Great little restaurants too. There are many places to rent that are not terribly expensive.

I would take them to the Pont du Gard near Uzes for a picnic on the riverbanks and for swimming and kayaking... fantastic day trip!
