I am taking my two sons (12 & 13) to copenhagen for a three day visit in early June to the city. All they want to know is there a water park there for them to go swimming. or maybe even a fresh water beach for them

I am sorry but I made a mistake in my post. I said I was taking my two sons. What I should have said was that I was taking my two GRANDSONS. I am 74 years old so I think I am a little too old to have sons that age.

We took our 13 year old daughter to Copenhagen in June of 2005. We never went swimming--- we were too busy, but did walk along many beautiful beaches.( the beach and harbor in Dragor was fun) There are lots of things to see on the beaches, jelly fish, seals, lots of cool rocks. There was an old fashion amusement park by one beach, we road bikes to it. Be aware that some beaches have topless sun bathers.

There were several places in Copenhagen where people were swimming in the harbor. At one place there was a large diving board. Sorry I don't recall the name of it, but it was by Hans Christian Andersen Blvd.

My 13 year old daughter LOVED the castles, Even if they only want to swim I would take them to Tivoli Gardens- a small amusement park, and Rosenborg Slot- wonderful castle- great to see all the royal jewels, The park around Rosenborg is a great gathering place too. I would also suggest the Resistance Museum (Frihedsmuseet). My children were moved by the roll Denmark played in hiding the Jews from the Nazies. ( We spent about 1 1/2 hours there- not all day)

Do they like to shop? Stroget is just fun to hang out in and shop. Also the boat tour of the harbors at Nyhavn was fun. My daughter also like the view from the Radhus.

Maybe one day take the train to Helsingor, it is about 1 hour by train all along the coast, to see Hamlet's Castle. From Helsingor it is a 20 minute ferry ride to Helsingborg , Sweden. Kind of fun to say you went to Sweden too.

By them lots of ice cream, all over it is freshly made and wonderful!

I'm not aware of any water parks in or near Copenhagen, but my kids (boy 14&11, girl 9 at the time) had a wonderful time in Copenhagen. I think their favorite was climbing the spiral staircase up the outside of the steeple at Our Savior's Church. awesome view, not for acrophobics. They will enjoy Tivoli. The world's oldest continuously-operating roller coaster is there. My kids really enjoyed watching people play a game where you try to throw hard rubber balls shaped like rocks into baskets surrounded by hanging crockery. The "rocks" never stay in the baskets and everyone just ends up throwing them at the crockery, making very satisfying breaking dishes noises, which is probably the point of the thing anyway. It was more fun to watch than to play. We stayed at one of the Cab-Inn hotels and the kids enjoyed that too. Stroll down the Stroget (walking street) and watch the buskers in the squares. No fresh-water beaches that I know of. Denmark is pretty much surrounded by the North Sea. The suggestion to visit Kronborg Palace is a good one. It's an old fortress that guarded Denmark from invaders, particularly the Swede's. There's even a dungeon of sorts, though mostly misbehaving soldiers were locked up there. I second the suggestion to buy ice cream, and if it gets chilly, which it occasionally does in early June, they make the best hot chocolate there too. If they ask you if you want cream in it, it means whipped cream, and the answer is YES.

No water parks, but there are a couple of public swimming pools that are decent. It will probably be too cold even if there was a water park. Your best bet, aside from Tivoli (there, they have a wonderful pond and great water light show Weds. & Sat. along with the firworks), they will probably have fun getting their feet wet at the Little Mermaid (falling in the water jumping on the rocks), and a lot of fun can be had at Bakken, an amusement park located in a deer park just outside Copenhagen, easily accessible by public transport.

My 12 Year Old Son loved Old Town with the shops and the typical hustle and bustle of an old and vibrant city. There are plenty of kid friendly attractions. 1 toy store had a huge Lego section that my son fell in love with. He even got interested in the architecture it is wonderful.

You said "fresh water beach" and I don't know of any, though there are a couple of beautiful lakes in north Zealand. The beaches near Dragor, and north of Copenhagen on the Danish Riviera, and in North Zealand near Gilileje will be COLD water swimming - my wife calls it "bracing" - but they are gorgeous beaches.

Ira and Wilbur mention some interesting places. If you go to Vor Frelsors Kirke (Our Savior's Church) keep your eye on your kids, Christiania - dope smoker's paradise - is only a block away.
