Abram, you are probably depressed at the thought of your son and grandson being so far away, but you needn't worry about them. There are 43,000 Americans in the Kaiserslautern/Ramstein area with "personal experience". Many American families live off-base in local communities, and everyone knows the best places in the area for leisure activities. Your son and DIL will get lots of help from other families in their new unit. You would be astonished at the welcome new families get when arriving at at an overseas base - quite unlike anything in the civilian world.

Gee, all I wanted was a little travel information--that's what I thought was the purpose of this board--not your impression of my emotional stauts. So far, that fabulous welcome has not been the case, but we are hopeful that things will improve.

They'll finally get the keys to their apartment Tuesday, after being stuck in a small one bedroom motel for three weeks. Unfortunately, they weren't given good information about when they'd get the first shipment of their belongings, so, while money is still tight, they'll have to buy sheets and towels, even though they own plenty, and would have packed some in one of the six suitcases they could take on the plane.
