Ate at Toro's for the first time last week. Where are you cooking?

LOL...i only cook at home...and not often enough. Toro is excellent. Ken Orringer is as good as they come.

Toro's price point is affordable for those who cant enjoy UNI and Clio....both great, but not worth the bucks for the portion size.

The price list for Toro is a bit higher these days regarding wine. Other than that...I hope you enjoyed it.

Have you tried Craigie Street Bistrot, Troquet, Rendevouz, or for good ol' homestyle cooking with a ridiculously affordable and EXCELLENT wine list, Silvertone.

I can recommend many more...but I would try those.

Craigie Street has a nice chef's whim on Sunday, as does Rendeveouz. Rendeveouz' is 4 courses for 32 bucks on Sunday, I believe!!!

Yes we have tried Craigie Street but not our favorite. I get the newsletter from them .

Out of curiousity what did you not like as much at Craigie? I have had both very good and ok there...just not bad.

I dislike the room...and location.

Have you tried Marco, Mark Orfaly's new restaurant in the N. End. I am not a huge fan of Pigalle...but Marco is pretty good.

you hit it-the room and location, but our dinner was not impressive. Same with the Petite Robert bistro, too crowded tables together the poor waiters keep bumping into seats.

Petit Robert...MOST HORRIFIC WANNABE PLACE IN BOSTON.

Good lord it is awful. They have hands down the worst waiter I have ever comes across.

You will be pleased to know, Petit Robert is opening a second place (why on earth they would do so) in the S. End.

I never considered a hot dog in a huge pastry puff to be "noveau bistro" french style.

But hey......

BTW...Matt Schaeffer did a great article on INTERNATIONAL dining in Boston. He took different friends and asked the friends to take them to their favorite traditional restaurant. All the people were born in their homelands. I think he hit about 6 places....including Nigerian, Russian, Middle Eastern, etc.
