Chester: Hotels & Restaurants
We will be arriving in Manchester in Sept. to start our trip through N Wales & N.England. We will be stopping in Chester to see the city and it's medieval wall. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel or B&B? I have been searching this site and others and there is not much input about Chester. Any ideas? JUdy :-)

We stayed at Craxton Wood last year which is about 20 minutes north of the city. It is a nice hotel, but I didn't like being that far from the city center. I would try to find something closer. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Take a look at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel. It's an upscale property. I attended a wedding reception there. I stayed at a place about 15 minutes outside of Chester called Frogg Manor. That place was a hoot. I'd stay there again though. Rooms in the 90 GBP range plus or minus.

Flattire, I agree that with you about being closer to the city! Either inside or just outside the walls. obxgirl: the Grosvenor is just a smidgen out of our price range ;-), but it looks wonderful BTW. Thanks for thr input. Judy

Don't remember the name of the B&B, but it was next to the river on the street that is closed to any thru traffic. Great location! I really think I found it on this board. Anyway, be sure to take the walking tour at the Tourist information building. You just show up at the right time and it costs very little. He pointed out sites we never would have seen on our own!

You could have a look at this website
http://www.roomcheck.co.uk/chester/ You can browse the site and book online. As for restaurants, the Blue Bell is very nice and in a really old building complete with the obligatory ghost. It's near the Town Hall and Cathedral. |
There are Chester restaurant reviews at

Hi, Judyrem. I can't actually recommend this hotel, because I haven't stayed there yet, but the location is very good and the cost is not bad. I have reservations for September. It is The Eaton Hotel, and their website is: [email protected].
I will say, they are the first and only hotel which charged my first night's lodging to my credit card before I arrived. You do have to give your credit card number to a hotel to reserve, but they are the first to use it in my experience. |
How very bizzare(twilight zone) Dallas...I just booked a night there for Sept 15, when are you going? Yes, they charged me too....kind of weird. My room was 69.50GBP. which is not bad. The location looks great and they have parking too. I can't wait to go, Chester looks unique IMO.

Judy,
We stayed at the Redland Hotel in Chester in September 2001 and loved it! A pleasant one-mile walk from the city center, with lots of free parking, it's a quirky victorian, filled with stained glass, suits of armor, high wingback chairs, and some four-poster beds, by far the neatest place we stayed in England. There are laundry facilities in the basement. The website and e-mail address I have doesn't seem to be working, however, so I hope it's still open for business. Redland Hotel 64 Hough Green Chester CH48JY 01244 671024 01244 681309 I hope you enjoy Chester as much as we did. Mary Fran |
Well, now I do believe in the Twilight Zone! I'll be there from the 14th through the 22nd. Let's get together for a drink on the 15th -- OK?

Sounds like a great idea! You can e-mail me at [email protected]. We can iron out the details OK? :-D
