Check your tickets for flight times.

We flew from Rome to Philly and were expecting a 5 hour layover for our next flight. We were wasting time and just happened to check our tickets and found that we were put on an earlier flight than we originally were given and the airline did not tell us of the change. We made it to board on time but had we not checked the ticket we could have missed the flight.

Always good advice, as schedules can change even the day before you leave.

We also were put on an earlier flight from Naples to Rome back in September. They did give us the courtesy of asking if it was acceptable to us. Thank you for the warning. We will make sure in the future that we check the tickets before leaving the check in area.

We booked flights to Paris several months in advance and received our eticket.

About a month before our trip I just happened to go to to check my flight. They had changed our return flight and had us coming into one NY airport and out a different NY airport. We had never received an email telling us about the change.

I posted a message here asking how difficult that would be and several people stated very strongly that we should call and try to get that change.

We did get it changed thanks to their suggestions.

So, go online and double check before you leave for your trip. Things can change and you might not know about it.

Also, if you book far in advance it is useful to check that dramatic changes do not occur (long before you even get an e-ticket!).

We booked tickets with Royal Brunei and paid in full for our family of 5 in January 2008, for travel to Europe in December 2008. The original flight times involved a 5 hour wait in Brunei for the connecting flight for the Dubhai-London leg. This was fine because we were also told that we would have to clear customs in Brunei before being allowed onto the connecting flight.

In March our travel agent informed us that Royal Brunei had changed their schedule and that we would only be in Brunei for 45 minutes before the connecting flight took off. Everyone (travel agent, friends, acquaintances who had travelled with Royal Brunei sometime during the preceding 4 weeks and had fallen victim to the new scheduling, and online reports) except Royal Brunei told us we'd never make the connecting flight in time.

We did not want to risk missing our fight and definitely did not want to be stranded in Brunei for 24 hours while we waited for the next flight. Therefore we had to cancel our tickets, cop a cancellation fee, rebook on another airline at a higher fare, and wait 6 weeks for Royal Brunei to refund us our money.
Better than missing our connecting flight though.
