cheapest way to get from greece to turkey
Hello there,
I will be traveling Greece in the first week of June for 13 days then moving onto Turkey for a 7-9 days. I am a 20 year old backpacker. I will be leaving from Athens, traveling to Santorini, iOS and Myknonos, So I was interested in getting to the port of Kusadasi? I heard that you have to get to Samos then ferry to Kusadasi from there, which I could do. Will this be the easiest way? Then traveling to Ephesus, perhaps to cappadocia (if time permits) then through Ankara to Istanbul. 1) What is the easiest way to get from Greece to Turkey? 2) Will I have time to go to cappadocia? Or should I stick to just going up the coast from Kusadasi to Istanbul?? Thank you, Angela |
From Mykonos you can fly direct to Istanbul during the summer months or you can ferry to Samos as you've described.

Hellenic Seaways have ferries from Mykonos to Samos, arriving at the port of Karlovasi - http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/files/...nos2014_en.pdf
Boats to Kuşadası depart from Vathi, farther east. That is probably the best way to go if you want to visit Ephesus. From Ephesus to Cappadocia is pretty easy, there is a night bus with Nevşehir Seyahat from Selçuk to Göreme, taking 12 hours - http://www.nevsehirlilerseyahat.com.tr/ Also maybe with Süha Turizm - http://www.suhaturizm.com.tr/ Or fly from İzmir to Kayseri with either SunExpress or Pegasus. |
Oh the choices - when backpacking in Turkey and Greece with a friend in 1970 we crossed from Marmaris to Rhodes Town, sailing on a gulet. The only ferry service was booked out by day-trippers from Greece for the next 5 days and we'd agreed to meet other friends in Crete by a certain date, so time was of the essence!
