Cheapest Paris Trip--possible?

For example, go to expedia, pick a air/hotel combo...and see how cheap it can be.

Very possible for one, rather difficult for 2 (for 10 days). Two could do it for maybe 6-7 nights...

I'm traveling with a friend in high season from the midwest for 17 days (divided between Brussels, Provence, and Paris). Airfare, hotels & apt., trainfare between cities, and 4 days of car rental are coming in at just over
$2300/person.

I will still need to spend money for museum passes, daily transportation, food and purchases.

If you go in low season or shoulder season you will whack off 1/3 to 1/2 of the airfare cost of summer travel and hotel prices may also be less.

Based on all the messages I've read on the travel boards there are plenty of safe, well located hotels and apartments in Paris for a single person. Hotel Jeanne D'Arc in the Marais gets decent reviews and is always under $100/nt. Great location.

I just saw a thread about an apt. that looked very cute for 650 euros/week and the comments on the neighborhood by other posters were very favorable. However, you will find the more centrally located places (1-7 arr.) cost more than those in the higher numbered arr.

If you're sharing a room with someone else your room/apt will be even less expensive per person. My Paris apt. is 1350$US for a week and two of us are splitting it but three could really fit if two wanted to sleep together in the queen sized bed. www.vrbo.com is a good starting place for apartments.

I just checked availability at hotel-alixia.com - a single there from July 6 through 16 is 774€ including VAT. For two it's 874€.

Airdare from where? presumably US, since there is a reference to USD - - but what month? From some parts of the US, airfares to Paris can be purchased for less than $350 in substantial chunks of the year. And there are still rooms to be had for under %70 a night in Paris - - leaves a lot of money left over to plan the trip in any of several ways - - some of them rather princely!

Even if you meant $3000 for _two_ people, the opportunity exists to skin this cat in any number of ways.

Yes. It is very easy to spend 10 days in Paris on that budget - especially if you are splitting a hotel room/apartment with another person. I typically spend $1000/week outside of airfare without scrimping - eat well, drink french champagne in cafes, go to museums, buy souvenirs, etc.

I went to Paris for 17 days at the beginning of May (2 years ago) and spent $3000 all in. I was travelling alone mind you, but still.

I stayed above a greek restaurant on Huchette (les Argonautes). It was a 1 minute walk to Notre Dame and in a very safe neighbourhood for a single woman.

It cost me $1000 cdn for my hotel, my flight was $700 or so and I spent approx $100 per day on entertainment and meals, shopping etc.

oh yeah....i spent $3K CANADIAN at a time when 1 euro = $1.67 cdn...so I was really proud of my budget.

Much depends upon when you plan to go, your departure airport, and how much time and effort you wish to spend shopping like the dickens for air fares and hotel room.
