Cheapest flights between countries?

my husband and i are traveling to germany in march. we are going to visit amsterdam and copenhagen also. any research we have done on rail travel has left us with a few questions. we now think a flight between amsterdam and copenhagen would be cheaper (and quicker) than rail travel. any input about air travel between european countries would be appreciated. thank you in advance.

You may not find anything between these two, unless, by chance, you also WANT to go to London, Brussels, Cologne (/Bonn) or Milan (Bergamo - - they are some of the "hub" cities that come to mind that might offer something you can use.

Without actually looking at each of the (possibly) relevant airline websites, I don't know if any serve your city pair, but here you go:

www.easyjet.com
www.bmibaby.com
w ww.ryanair.com
www.buzz.com (about to be sold to ryanair.com)
www.virgin-expres.com

or

www.germanwings.com

I am even less certain about the status of www.basiqair.com which has a hub IN Amsterdam (I couldn't get their web site to work last week) - - and then, there are the various member airlines of www.europebyair.com

There might also be some ideas I haven't considered at www.flybudget.com - - last of all, perhaps try asking your question on the Cheap Flights forum of www.eurotrip.com

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Here's a current article on low-cost European airlines:
www.msnbc.com/news/863386.asp Scroll down to the maps.

Bon voyage!

That's a really good article, Betsy, and it's hard not to notice that it was basically prepared for MSNBC by that other publisher Fr_ _ _ _r's. Fodors would do well to compile a low-cost airlines resource for this site (or would that offend their advertisers, travelocity, expedia, etc?)

Anyhow, I failed to cite the main site they mention www.aerfares.net - - byt itself it isn't really helpful for MarkandMae's request. But it did get me to look into what is offered by europebyair.com - - since nothing on the maps included with the MSNBC article is a match for their city pair.

And it reminded to mention one that I actually had forgotten: www.brussels-airlines.com

This might be your closest to a viable air travel option; train from AMS to Brussels, and then fly from there. However, I am not sure you will find their discounted fares for this route in March.

Virgin Express, which I did mention, is also a competitor on this route, and they do show a fare of 84 euro one way, on the first date I checked.
Which airline did you buy your trans Atlantic ticket with. I know that European carriers have airpasses but they give them different names. British Airways have it. And they charge by how many coupons. Also I think you need to fly the trans Atlantic route with these European carriers to avail the use of their airpass. Check with a travel agent who specializes with the Scandinavian market.

Up to the top, for MarkandMae. And the suggestion from nellie is a very good one.
