Cheapest Air from NYC
We are planning a trip to Ireland at the end of May and have identified a fare on Aer Lingus for $408 plus tax. The only condition is that we will not have an assigned seat until we check-in and wont get frequent flyer miles

Is there any major risk in this approach. Any other fares anyone is aware that are any better for that time?? Thanks

You could play around with dates on Continental.com. I found a $524 (tx incl) fare for late May. Newark to Dublin.

I was just in Ireland and heard of a possible Aer-lingus Strike they just cut 54 pilots and the commision sale %for tour and travel companies I flew Aer Lingus it was very good but ther are troubles a head in the next few months

There is a news that Aer Lingus may be out of business very soon. I wouldn't think about buying tickets for the end of May. $408 is a good price but is it worthy to take a chance? Also many European airlines , for instance Air France, do not assign seats until you get to the airport. Don't be late and you will have no problem. We do it all the time.

After my last experience with Aer Lingus, I won't fly them again. And this was just an internal European flight.

I got tickets on Continental at the end of April to Shannon from National Airport in DC for $570 inc tax. Not cheap, but I couldn't wait to book because my dates are firmly fixed. But that's not too expensive, either, for that time of year.
