Cheaper Airfares to Greece

I was hoping to get some advice on searching for a bit cheaper airfares to Greece. I was planning to go in May 2007 and just looking at the air prices right now make me nervous. Right now it's about $1000 per person. Any advice on how to find better fares or maybe a cheaper time to go there? I welcome your advice!

Check sites like www.mobissimo.com and www.kayak.com on a daily basis. I paid $640 from NY on Iberia for October.....May will be slightly more

I'm finding similar prices for airfare from Washington DC to Naxos, Greece for next April 2007. I've also been checking almost daily and have also been checking whichbudget to see if it would make sense to fly into somewhere else in Europe and take a charter to Naxos. No luck so far! When we went to Santorini in April 2005 our tix were $850.

One other tip --

Go to itasoftware.com
Click on "looking for airfares"

Then select Month Long Search (from the option that goes acros).

I've seen more decent fares come up on itasoftware, but then they're not always available when I click on them. Good luck.

Where are you flying from? Where i live if i find fares around 1K to europe, that's a bargain, (especially if it has only 1 layover).
Is it possible to use FF miles and fly to a hub? (this is what i sometimes do, but i have family living in most hub cities, so I'm not spending on food/hotel/transportation)
check the sites given as well. There was some link to a faretracker (which updated you on changes) some one posted somewhere, but I have yet to come across it again.
are you signed up on the airlines emails? They'll usually send out notices for fare sales as well.

Since we don't know... are you originating in El Paso or Perth, Calgary or Honolulu... I don't know how anyone here can advise you...

Best wishes,

Rex

I paid about $750 for my flight this May on Air France (from JFK) because of a sale in Jan--Feb. I don't think you can expect to get a bargain like that next year because fuel costs are significantly higher than they were and because May is no longer low season (it's more like shoulder). If you wait, there may be a sale and there may not be. You might also try a travel agent specializing in Greece. I think you can expect to pay at least $800 to $900, but you will probably be able to get a fare below $1000. Though I have no crystal ball ... that's just a guess based on my research this year.

Since Fodors has the e-mail address of every registrant - - why don't you write to Chrissem, Doug Stallings... to point out that there are some answers here, and that the most important piece of information - - the origination city - - was left out.

No way to know... if the information you added in your posting... is even vaguely relevant to the travel plans of Chrissem or not.

Hi,
Since visiting Greece back in feb/06, we started making plans to come back right away--the following year actually.

We booked our flt on Delta airlines for around 850 incl tax, and we're going end of march early april of '07 for 14 days.(jfk to ath r/t)

We decided to purchase the tix bec though the price remained around $800(excl tax etc)the flt was getting full.

Well, Good Luck, and enjoy your trip.
