Cheap Venice Hotel Advice
 

Hello and thanks for all the great input in this forum!

My husband and I are going to spend two nights in Venice in mid-June. We have an absolute maximum budget of about 180E per night, but would like to try to come in below that.

We inquired with Hotel Campiello, which gave us the wonderful rate of 80E/night for a standard double--then yanked that away when we tried to book it.

We've also found a B&B on TripAdvisor called "Room in Venice" that offers a 90E rate (seemingly for real), but the B&B has no A/C and there are not a lot of available reviews. Is anyone here familiar with that one? I know June with no A/C can be a problem, but no TA reviews complain--does anyone have *summer* experience with this B&B, in particular?

Would love to hear any other suggestions. We do seem to have a lot of options, still, but like all others here we hope to get the most "bang for the euro" possible. Thanks, all!

p.s. I do not consider 180 euro a "cheap" hotel by any stretch. Even in Venice that is easily mid-range.

You can get the Hotel Ala for about 150. Great location, AC, pleasant hotel, wonderful breakfast.

People here love Locanda Orseolo and La Calcina. If you can get neither, try the Ala. Not as cheap as those you've already looked at.

It is well within your price range in mid June and is very well located on Campo St Stephano. It has AC - a real plus in June. We enjoyed our stay.

Overbeck- we have booked the Locand Fiorita after advice from this forum and checking reviews on Tripadvisor. We will be in Venice March 14-16. We got a rate of 90euros/nt. for two people.
I'll let everyone know what we thought but for now check it out.

tudorprincess- you will enjoy Fiorita, I know that we did. We stayed once for a few nights in the main building and once for three nights in the annex around the corner. The annex is off putting from the outside, quite unlike the main building which is charming, but the interior and rooms were very nice as long as you stay away from the ones in the attic. Some of those have ceilings that are so slanted they intrude seriously in the room space. The location is wonderful. Close enough to St. Marco to make it an easy stroll, but far enough that it is quiet. Campo Santo Stephano has a charm of its own. It is also a very short walk to the Academia Bridge and vaporetto stop.

I believe Ca' del Brocchi has doubles for 152E and 164E, and Centopietre has doubles for 125E with private but external bathroom, or 160E ensuite. Both properties say they are air-conditioned. Both are in Dorsoduro, near Accademia. (Those rates were for Sept'07)

I like to start by looking at venere.com, find a hotel in the area I want and then go to the hotel website - occasionally rates are cheaper if booked directly. We have found that staying slightly away from the main attractions (Canneregio, Castello Ovest) lessens the price considerably yet provided us with more of a "real" Venice experience and since Venice is so walkable anyway it didn't matter. We always cross-check our finds on Trip Advisor or here before booking though. I ran a search on venere.com for 2 nights in mid-June and found plenty under your budget...
