Cheap places to go in Europe?
 

Can someone recommend a cheap place to go to in Europe. I want to travel in February. I'm looking for a place that has inexpensive hotels and restaurants as well as a city atmosphere with lots to see. I went to Prague last year and that was great. Is there any other inexpensive city like that in Europe. Thanks for any infor.

Lots of people are offering 7 day trips to London or Ireland including airfare and hotel and/or rental car for $399 plus tax. Krakow is everything you want, and it's even cheaper than Prague. I loved Krakow, it's one of my favorite cities. However, it does have a general feeling similar to Prague, of course, so if you want something very different, you'd have to go to some other country.

If Prague appealed to you, try Budapest and Bratislava. But their Cafe Societies will be hibernating in February, so...<BR><BR>

Greece in April

It's not Europe - but you can always find really good deals to Morocco and Tunisa in the fall and winter - both are exciting places to visit and easy to get by on with a small budget

Go to Paris in Feb. The fares are cheap, it is low season and you won't have any horde of tourists. I got a fare of 260$ roundtrip from the west coast on NWA. Rent a small studio, much cheaper than tiny hotel rooms and you have the option of cooking fresh food and doing lanudry. There are many rentals available and Feb is the cheapest time. rentparis.com is one I am using

I agree about Krakow. It's awesome and you can do some day trips from there if you want.

I have not been there, but I hear that Slovenia is beautiful ( like Austria) and cheap!

City atmosphere . . . cheap . . . Europe<BR><BR>How about Edinburgh? Relatively low cost, high atmosphere. Dublin is not my favorite destination, but it's relatively inexpensive. Like Rex says, Lisbon is also relatively inexpensive and the Algarve shouldn't be too crowded tho' Portugal starts to creep up in price there.<BR><BR>You make it tough adding the city atmosphere . . . there's values to be found all over Europe once you are out of the city. One of my favorite hotels is about 20 miles east of Baden Baden near Weisenbach (I'm banging my head on the desk trying to remember the name of the town) called the Ochsen. We had a woodburning fireplace in the room and only paid $70 per night. This was in December 2000.<BR><BR>Anyway . . . narrow it down some.<BR>

NOT! <BR>Slovenia may be relatively cheap but no city atmosphere. Even Ljubjana is a small town, even though it may be pretty.<BR><BR>Rex and Christine are the only ones getting it. Lisbon is good. Krakow is better. Leipzig is also good. Maybe Bratislava.

Berlin is actually relatively cheap for a big European city, and there is so much to do indoors that you almost don't notice the cold/early sunset. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're cofortable in big cities (e.g., New York, London, Toronto). Agree that Budapest and Krakow are good (and cheap) bets if you like Prague - Bratislava is even cheaper, but has not quite as much to do and see.

Istanbul and Izmir in Turkey, are nice places with cheap hotel and food.

My husband and I were in Italy in Feb 2000, and it was great! Not too expensive if you don't mind pensions or hostels--they were both clean and well maintained.<BR> Florence was beautiful and laid back. Rome has the city atmosphere plus the beutiful scenery and all that history!<BR> Venice was great, too. <BR> Good luck and have a great time!

Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities, but unfortunately the pound doesn't offer a good exchange rate.
