cheap Paris hotels

Hello there!

I started searching for cheap hotels in Paris since I plan to visit the city maybe this Autumn. My budget is to spent 60 euros at most for a single room per day. I don't care how luxurious or how big the room will be. But what I take for granted is that the room should have private bathroom (shower and toillet). It was a great surprise to find that many hotels in Paris have shared toilets! Disgusting! Even the worst hotel in Athens (where I live) has a bathroom in every room. Anyway, I have read previous posts that suggest to raise my budget to 80 euros per day. Of course 80 euros per day is out of the question for me. In fact even 60 euros for a single room in a low cost hotel I think it's too expensive, not only for me but for everyone in general.

So are there any suggetions for me? Any personal experiences? Or should I forget from the beggining this price option?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Panoulis,

Hotels in Paris and London have had shared baths and WCs for centuries. En Suite facilities are fairly new for smaller hotels.

Look in the area around the Eiffel Tower and the area around the Gare Montparnasse for hotels in your price range.

One two-star hotel with private baths that I found to be decent in the St. Germain district is the Hotel La Louisiane. You might give it a check on their own web site, which is (I think) www.lalouisiane.com, or if not you can find it through www.ParisHotels.com. Good luck.

I've stayed twice at the Lyon Mulhouse about 1/2 a block from the Bastille metro. I recommended this hotel to my boss and she stayed there and liked it too.

The rooms have private baths w/hairdryers and the location is really good. I've posted before and if you do a search, you probably can bring up more info on it.

They have a website . . . http://www.france-paris.com/1-hotel-...S/index-gb.htm

We paid about $77 for a triple and about $70 for a double but they do advertise single rooms starting at 55 euros.

Good luck,
Sandy

Hotel that I mentioned above is in the 6th arrondissement. ALSO, another hotel w/similar name in the 5th, which is frequently mentioned on this forum. Not sure, but it also may be in your price range.

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles
75, rue Cardinal Lemoine 75005 Paris; located near the Contrescarpe, situated in the historical heart of the Latin Quarter.

we stayed at Hotel les Argonauts in April. It was small, but in the Latin Quarter and we paid $69 for a double. Check them out, and others, on www.eurocheapo.com

Hi, if chain hotels are okay with you, I'd recommend Etap Hotel. We stayed at the Etap Hotel (Porte D'Orleans) in Sep 2001 for 290 francs per night (double). At that time, that was about $36 (US)?

The bathroom (toilet/shower) was small, but very clean. My husband and I had no problems with it (he's 5'9"", I'm 5'4" so that probably helped :-)).

The hotel was about two blocks from the Porte D'Orleans metro stop, so it was very convenient. I think you could find another Etap closer to the city "center" though. We stayed at Porte D'Orleans because it was the only one available at the time we were there.

I'm surprised at your search because I think it is rather unusual to find hotels in Paris nowadays with shared facilities, even cheap ones. I just think it's really uncommon, although certainly more in one-stars as I am not that familiar with that market. Athens and Paris don't have the same cost of living, so you can't compare hotel costs directly very well, unfortunately.

60 euro is low but even then, it shouldn't be that difficult to find a list of hotels at that rate for a single with private bathroom. Perhaps you are looking in the more expensive parts of town. 80 euro would give you a much bigger selection of hotels, but it should be fairly easy to find what you want. I'd suggest you look for 1-2 star hotels in arrondisements 11-15, for example. Try www.eurocheapo.com or www.123france.com or the above web sites, or just go to the Paris Tourist Office web site and search directly by location, star rating and price. www.jack-travel.com has excellent suggestions of some very budget hotels, and www.timeout.com has some, also, and www.parishotels.com has 2 stars in outer areas.

For example, doing a simply search on the Paris TO site by price up to 60 euro and you find:
Hotel Sevigne, a 2* in the Marais, excellent location, www.le-sevigne.com at 61 euro for a single with douche+WC

Hotel Sunny, a 2* near bd Port Royal (5e) at 60 euro

Hotel Sansonnet, a 2* in the Marais at 64 euro www.hotel-sansonnet.com

Touring Hotel Magendie in the 13th Butte aux Cailles area, 58 euro for single with douche+WC

And that didn't even look at the really bad or outer areas or the one-star hotels.

I remember posting lists of hotel suggestions for a couple people looking for this exact same thing within the past year or two.

I am going to Paris in the same time.
Ira! Could you recommend a good cheap hotel in 5th arr.? Are you russian?

McBetsy Jun 12th, 2003 04:35 PM

The Hotel Porte Doree is a wonderful hotel with incredible prices. It is not in the center of things, but it is in a great neighborhood right by the Parc Vincennes. It is right across the street from a metro station on line 7.
They have a website.

Hi kukulemon,

Can't help much with hotels in the 5th, since we always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte in the 6th (abt 100E/nite dbl).

I am part Russian by descent on my father's side.

dgruzew Jun 13th, 2003 05:22 AM

kukulemon,

We stayed at a nice place in the 5th called Hotel des Carmes , booked it off France.com.

Rooms were very clean and decent sized, the staff was very nice. we paid 100euro for a street side room(but it is noisy with window open). Inside rooms are 85 euro. Location is awesome right near metro and walking dist to notredame, many other sights.Lots of cheap eats in the area as well

Hotel Crimée is in the 19th arrondissement, near the canal. It is modern, and has gotten good reviews. It even has air-conditioning,and the prices are very very reasonable. It has its own web site, - www.hotelcrimee.com..
Or you might consider Hotel Lux Picpus in the twelfth, which has also gotten good reviews.

I was in Paris just recently (April) and stayed in the 4th. Very close to the Place de Bastille (closest Metro stop as well). It was 54 Euros/night and the room I stayed in had its own WC and TV. However, the view wasn't so pleasant (inner part of the hotel). There are some rooms that are very cheap, but don't have a WC or TV. It's a one start hotel, but I found it to be clean and in a great location.
Hotel de la Herse d'Or. 20 rue St. Antoine.
