Cheap hotels/B&B in Rome

We're travelling to Rome around Christmas time in late december. Our group consists of two adults and one teen (triple room?). We're looking for a cheap, but acceptable accomadations around Roma Termini if its possible. Do you guys know of any places that fit our tight budget? We're looking for around 100 euros IF POSSIBLE.

Hotel Papa Germano, just a few blocks from Termini. Very small rooms but very clean.

Hotel Julia might work, but it's a bit more. I found rates of about 120 Euros for a triple, including breakfast. It's a little further from Termini, although in an excellent and very convenient area.

Hello, you can try at www.agv2001.com - it should be around 100 euros per night, it's a B&B. It is located in the Vatican area.

Here's a B&B that has a triple room (w/ private bath) for 92 Euro/night. Two blocks to Pantheon.

Also TALK to this place (don't rely on online booking, it may falsely say they are booked).

I forgot to mention convents.

Unfortunately, my family and I aren't very religious so I'm not sure if a convent would work.

Have any of you had any success with emailing a hotel/b&b personally for better rates?

WillTravel Nov 12th, 2010 10:22 AM

The convents don't care if you are religious. People of any or no faith can use them, except when specifically indicated otherwise.

I've usually found the best discounts on consolidator sites, not by emailing the hotel/B&B.

If you are staying 3 or more days, look for an apartment. Sleepinitaly.com, VRBiO.com. Also try Hotel des Artistes or The Beehive.

We stayed at this place last March, triple for I think 65 or 70 Euros:

It was fine, nothing fantastic but did the job for us. I wouldn't really call it Termini, maybe 15 minutes away in the right direction.

Travelyesplease Nov 12th, 2010 01:23 PM

Aah all the prices have jumped up due to Christmas, but thank you for providing the links :)

WillTravel... what is a good consolidator site? I've been looking for one but haven't had much success.

Here's another place:

And I second the suggestion for a convent--they don't care in the least if you practice ANY religion whatsoever, the only possible "downside" is that they usually do have a curfew, but it's usually 11PM or midnight or so.

Trying to get something via Priceline is another option, but I've never used Priceline for Rome.

Convents don't typically raise their rates for holidays. They tend to have winter and summer rates that are pretty much set.

Santa Sofia should be in your price range and has a midnight curfew. They are one metro stop from Termini (Cavour stop) and you can see the Colisseum from their piazza although the forum is closer (just a few minutes walk). Their website doesn't mention triple rooms, but I think they have them.

There are 200+ convents in Rome that provide rooms with about 60 of them in the historic center. The cheapest is around 12€ and the highest (right in front of St. Peter's that looks more like a luxury hotel) is around 300€. Some are only available on school breaks (Christmas, Easter and summer).

Fraterna Domus and Istituto San Giuliana Falconieri should both be in your price range and have 11pm curfews. They are both close to Piazza Navona though, not Termini.

Thanks for your help everyone! I appreciate it. I ended up finding a B&B that recieved good reviews for 69 euros/a triple room. It was 4 blocks away from termini.

kybourbon Nov 13th, 2010 07:42 AM

And the name of the B&B is?

Travelyesplease Nov 13th, 2010 01:49 PM

It's called buonarroti home. Give or take the spelling :)

adrienne Nov 13th, 2010 01:58 PM

You gotta love newbies - either they never come back to say thank you or they can't be bothered to extend any help to others who have tried to help them. Here's the link to the B&B.
