Cheap Hotel in the Sultanahmet Area

Can anyone recommend a good, clean, centrally located hotel with ensuite bathrooms in the Sultanahemt area of Istanbul that has a good budget price? Only need a clean place to lay my head at night but do not want to stay in a hostel.

You might want to take a look at the Side. In the same building they offer both a hotel and a pension. I suppose the hotel is a bit nicer. I've stayed in the pension (with bath) and it was fine (and clean).

http://www.ayasofyahotel.com/ Rooms on the back side are dark, front side are nicer. Outside the city walls but walking distance from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Good cheap restaurant with friendly owner (Cesme) very close.

Hi

We're booked into the Hanedan Hotel - http://www.hanedanhotel.com. I was impressed with their prompt and efficient handling of my booking. I had also booked with the Side Pension for the second half of my stay in Istanbul but cancelled it. I wasn't happy with their response. They would not take a booking several months in advance and seemed evasive as to their rates. So I booked the lot with Handean. The Side does get a lot of good reviews in guides so it's really up to you in the end.

I think it's helpful to be specific about what you mean by a "budget price."I stayed at the Hotel Ambassador last year and I believe it meets your qualifications, has a great location and wonderful staff.I believe I paid about $60 for a single with ensuite bath.

I have been to Istanbul, but stayed at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Whilst wandering around Sultanahmet, I stumbled across a cute little hotel called Empress Zoe. It is next door to the fabulous Four Seasons. The Empress Zoe had a pretty garden and looked very tidy. It has an excellent reputation.

Gay friends stayed at Angel's Home last summer. They said it was very clean, if somewhat noisy. It had a great rooftop patio with views of the Blue Mosque. They did not like the owner, however; they refer to him as "slick Willy."

If there is anything I can help you with concerning Istanbul, just ask.

I can't say enough about the Apricot Hotel! it is a great place and the owner is ultra friendly! So is the rest of the staff! Breakfast is included and one of the best spreads we had while in Turkey!

And I stayed at the before mentioned Ambassador. Two years ago in December a room for two was 42 dollars, so 21 per head (the rate was through an Internet dealer). A great view to both Blue mosque and Hagia Sofia. I donīt complain.
