Cheap hostels in Florence??
I'm desperately looking for a cheap hostel in Florence. I'm travelling alone so dorms appreciated. Anyone stayed at 7 Santi Hostel? Any good?

Hi
I stayed there in September and found the facilty to be clean and well situated. It's a quick bus ride (#17 I think) from the bus station, and about 1/2 hour walk from the main sites ( ride the bus and save your feet). The desk is quite helpful in indicating on the map how to get around. There is a grocery store nearby. I stayed in a single room, which was great for about 30 euros (if I remember rightly) |
Thanks Danacat,
already emailed them about vacancies. I'm probably going there next week so finding accomodations will be a hassle. I'll just have to count my blessings and hope for the best... |
Emily...
One of the better known hostels in Florence is the Ostello Archi Rossi. I stayed there twice when I was backpacking Europe, and was pleased both times. It is a few minutes walk from the train station, and all the tourist sites are also just minutes away. It is very clean, and hot breakfast (eggs, toast, and what is supposed to be a bit of bacon...there are other choices as well)is included. Free internet is available, but it can be a wait. There is also a lockout for a few hours midday, but it's only about 3-4 hours. The cost depends on what kind of room, but ranges from about 17 euro for 9 person dorm without bath, to 23 euro for a 3-5 person dorm with bath. This hostel seems to be in every backpackers guidebook so this hostel is packed all the time. The nice part is it's easy to meet people at this hostel. The very down side is that they DO NOT take reservations! Since it is so popular you have to get there in the morning to reserve your place, drop off your bags, then come back after 2:30 to get your room. When I was there in the winter, getting there by 10 seemed to be OK. In the summer, I have heard if you are not there by 8 am, forget it. I got there at 6:30 am both times when they opened, and was fine (although the second time, I barely squeaked in!) If you are interested, let me know...I can dig up my guidebook and get the addy and phone number. It's a great hostel if you can get in...despite the staff not being the friendliest. :) |
crazymina,
thanks for the advice, I already read about Ostello Archi Rossi in Let's Go and that's certainly one possibility...I have the add etc. =) |
