Cheap flights to Ireland???
We're heading to Ireland in July and live in Richmond, VA--a non-hub. Any suggestions for inexpensive routes or carriers? All suggestions welcome! Thanks

No suggestions for specific carriers but you might do better if you are willing to drive to Dulles where there is more route competition.
I would, in addition to the usual search engines such as Orbitz, Expedia, etc., check out fares using the consolidator www.onetravel.com and the aggregator www.itasoftware.com. Somehow not sure it would be worth your time, etc., to try to fly to London and then hook up with a budget carrier such as RyanAir or EasyJet. Hope this helps some. |
Thanks very much!

I know Richmond VA is far from Chicago but I got an American Airlines flight round trip for $288 ($355 with taxes)from Ohare to Dublin, flying Thursday 2/23 to Thursday 3/9. If you go on a Tuesday or Thursday flights are usually cheaper. Schedule at least 1 month in advance as the early tix are cheaper and as the flight fills up the tix get more expensive. Feb and Mar are off season and July is in season for Ireland so you'll be paying more just for these reasons.

A lot more. July fares will be at least double the Feb/Mar fares! |
Dublin is actually a very inexpensive (comparatively speaking) destination so no need to fly through London. Besides, EasyJet does not fly to Dublin.
AerLingus out of JFK or BOS may be your best bet. I'm not sure which airline will get you to either city from Richmond but do check www.itasoftware.com and all the major travel sites. You may also want to check www.aerlingus.com just for kicks as they code share with AA. Good luck! |
Great ideas---thanks so much!
