cheap, clean, safe accommodation in London
I'm looking for a cheap but clean and safe accommodation for a couple days in may. Most of the hotel recommendations I've seen on this sight were a bit more expensive than I can handle! I had read Rick Steve's book recommending Cherry Court Hotel near Victoria Station. Has anyone stayed there? I'm looking for any alternatives you might have!
thanks
There is a string of small hotels on Cartwright Crescent in Bloomsbury that would fit your needs. The Euro, Mentone, and Crescent are among them. Suffolk Square near Paddington Station is another reasonable area for cheap places. A lot of times the small places listed in guidebooks fill up fast. If you don't mind stairs, many of the smaller places will work fine.

I stayed at The George Hotel about three years ago,and I would describe it as adquete at best. The rate was 60GBP for a shower only in the room and the WC down the hall. The shower was a recent addition to the room and looked as if it had been literaly plugged into the wall as an afterthought.Think of your own bedroom with a shower stall in the corner. On the plus side the Breakfast was so large that I found I could skip lunch and wait for dinner for my next meal.

Don't know what your budget is, but we just stayed at Balmoral House Hotel near Paddington Station. Current rates for a room with WC/shower and full breakfast are 40 pounds for single; 65 double; 80 triple. We found the location very convenient and safe.

Stayed at Tavistock and County Hotels

Both are Imperial Hotels near Russell Square. (Russell Square tube station on the Picadilly Line)

Tavistock is moderate
County is local...with basin in room and showers etc down the hall....Had to try a hotel like this....modest, inexpensive, but acceptable if on a tight budget.

Both are near Euston Station (train) and tube.
