Cheap buys in Paris

What are some of the things that I can buy cheaper in Paris than U.S ?
I am wondering if perfumes, handbags and shoes are cheaper there...

Yes.
Most French brand names are cheaper in Paris than the US.

For some great bargains on items like handbags or scarves, try the stalls outside the major department stores such as Printemps or Galeries Lafayette. I always buy ties from a stall outside Samaretaine, near the Louvre.

On the Camps Elysee (sp?) in a large store which sold perfumes & makeup--I bought a lot of Chanel products--cheaper than at home. I might add, one of the face creams is unavailable here.

Can't wait to replenish my supply this coming April.

I meant Champs not Camps!

Jean, do you mean Sephora? I also like Monoprix for bargains on makeup such as Bourjois. My daughter always likes to me to get her some French makeup such as eyeshadow and it is definitely cheaper in France than Macys in the US.

Sephora is on the Champs Elysses. Great store! Look for good French shampoos.
Annick Goutal has a store on the rue de Rivoli, I think, good buys there.
Sheisedo has a shop on Blvd St Germain, great buys especially makeup brushes.
Galleries Lafayette is a bargain, you show your passport and tell them which hotel you are staying in, and you get 10% off plus they do the detax there..best buys there
Longchamp, Lancel, browse the boutiques-good for finding labels not found in the US.
Lancome makeup is good there as is Clarins and Roc products.
Shoes: GL has a great shoe dept..look for bargains -yes!-bargains in Prada.
Rue Dragon on the Left Bank is shoe shopping heaven..spend a day just wandering in and out of great shoe stores. You can also find a Longchamp store there. The Marais is good for shopping on a Sunday, lots of good boutiques with unusual (not found in your neighborhood mall) sweaters and coats.
Happy shopping.

You can get great buys on Longchamps handbags in any of the large dept. stores--Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, etc., and there's a Mephisto store right near Bon Marche, although you can buy Mephistos very cheaply anywhere in Paris.

Best place in Paris to buy Lonchamp bags is definitely in their main store on 404, Rue Saint-Honore.

You'll find all models in all colours which might not be the case, if you're going to any other place like the department stores.

www.longchamp.com

All kinds of very expensive hair products here like Kerastasse or Klorane can be had cheaply at Monoprix. I'm a tea towel collector and there are real bargains all over, the Provence style ones.

If you like vintage style posters, ads, the Bookinistas along the Seine have all kinds for next to nothing.

If you like Mephisto shoes, you can buy them for 1/2 the US price in Paris.

what about louis vuitton handbags? are they cheaper there?

Re:LV Sep 14th, 2002 03:54 PM

Yes, that is why they put a limit to how many you can buy.

Hello Kate, I believe rue Dragon is in the 6th district(?). Can you please list the names of the shoe stores as I'm looking for relatively inexpensive shoes if possible. Thanks.

kate Sep 14th, 2002 04:48 PM

Oh Ann, I have no idea of the names of the stores! Lol, we stay on rue Jacob and friends had told me before the last trip to just walk up and down rue Dragon and there were so many shoe stores, and that is just what I did!
Maude Frizon is on rue des StsPeres, they actually have some good prices.
I ended up buying a pair of boots in Galleries Lafayette though.
Here is my list:
Rue de Grennelle-7th-young hip designers & accessories
rue Du Dragon -6th-rue Du Four, Rue es Sts Peres, Blvd St Germain>
APC 4 rue de Fleurus APC Surpo=lus-rue Madam
I just spent the days walking and going in and out of shops.
Hope this helps some, have a great time.K
kate Sep 14th, 2002 04:50 PM

Thanks Kate. I'll check out rue Dragon then-should be closeby I think. Will be at the Hotel d'Angleterre.
