'cheap' and good skincare and cosmetics in Paris
It seems everyone has some good finds in monoprix and someplace else. Am going to be in Paris next week. With weather like this, I see myself doing lots of shopping. I prefer my skincare with no perfume and loaded with good natural ingredients. I have been using clarins and where would be a good place to stock up. I am actually opened to new ideas. Would you share your your good finds and where to find them?
thanks

I read that there is a new category of stores in Paris called "parapharmacie."
As the name suggests, a parapharmacie is an offshoot of a pharmacy,
but it focuses more on skin and haircare with a few vitamins/minerals
and herbal teas thrown in for good measure. Thought I might go look in one, since there's one located on avenue du Gen Leclerc near where we stay...
Try using the www.pagesjaunes.fr website with the word "parapharmacie" and see if you can get some hits...

I live in France, and don't find the prices at "parapharmacies" inexpensive - at least where I live.
There can be bargains at Monoprix, but I still find the best prices at Sephora stores. Try signing up for a "Sephora" card, which gives you 10% off for every 150 euros purchased...and they give you 10% off for signing up for the card.
(Certain high end skin care products in Sephora are less than a third of the price of US stores - for example: Sisley)

To use 'parapharmacie' you have to leave it in the French version (if you did change it to English)..
I got a list of 46 - here are a few: (just going by the listings, don't know if they are truly good shops for what you want)
Pharmacie City / Elalouf (Pharmacie Fouhéty)
- 26 rue du Four 75006 http://www.city-pharma.com/
La Générale de Pharmacie Saint-Placide
- 58 rue St Placide 75006
Parashop - 165 rue de Rennes 75006
Euro Santé Beauté - 96 rue St Dominique 75007
Parashop Diffusion - several stores:
- 94 rue Rivoli 75004
- 55 rue St Antoine 75004
- 29 ave du Gén Leclerc 75014
Parapharmacie - 107Bis ave du Gén Leclerc 75014
Avenir Santé Beauté - 269 ave Daumesnil 75012
- "parapharmacie, natural products" Metro: Porte Doree
Regarding Clarins, I found this comment on a Fodors search:
"Clarins is much cheaper in France and everything they have is of pure high quality. You can find their products in any grand magasin (Dept. Store) or at places like Sephora".

I'll sigh up w sephora when i get there. Once i bought a really expensive cleanser in barneys, nyc and some months later I found the same bottle for $50 less in a discount store. i kind of think i'll start shopping in discount store frim then on. Are there any good discount store in Paris?
Thanks Travelnut for posting again. I'll check it out.

I second Pharmacie Fouhéty .. Grab a handbasket and just have a shopping good time! I always go for Roc products, hair stuff, and you are in a good area for other shopping (shoes, bakeries, etc)
At the small pharmacie on the corner of Blvd St Germain by Deux Magots, I usually pick up a goodly amount of Clarins.
Sephora is fun but has lost much of its charm for me since it is in every city in the US it seems.
mohan, imagine being able to say- I was forced to shop by the weather
(that will be MY story too)

Thanks Scarlett and Jody. I have Fouhety on my list. I'll go there absolutely.
If there is anything you can do with bad weather is to make a good excuse out of it.
I always pick up something for my husband. That put a smile on his face before he can get mad at me.
