cheap and cheerful hotel in london

Hi we are going to London on 23rd June for just 2 nights Has anyone any suggestions for a cheap and cheerfull hotel near the city centre? We arrive in Stanstead at 10pm on the 23rd an leave on 25th at 7 pm Nothing special planned just got two free flights with Ryan Air.....God Bless them!!!!!!

Congrats on the free tix.

Need to know your budget. Cheap to one person is very dear to the next.

It is pretty late to be finding a place now so your choices may be limited.

The "city centre" covers a LOT of territory and just about everywhere is convenient to all the sites by tube/bus/walking.

I'd definitely consider using Priceline, but do give us an idea of your budget.

thank you janisj my budget is 250 euro for the 2 nights. Maybe i need to spend more
i suppose i really should have done a little homework and decide what to do for out day and a half. I dont was to do too much just relaxing. Shopping isnt too important either

that is about £98 a night. There are lots of choices in that range - not luxury but definitely serviceable.

But I'd consider using the priceline "name your own price" feature. You can get a very nice 4-star property for about £50/€65 a night. Are you traveling from Ireland? If so use the Priceline UK site, not the US site. http://www.priceline.co.uk/

Check out biddingfortravel.com for info about what London hotels are currently going for. It is a site devoted to the US version of PL but still has a lot of useful info.

Try the Queensway Hotel on Sussex Gardens, near Hyde Park and Paddington Tube and Rail Station. They have a great ground floor room that faces the street. We stayed there for two weeks, in April, and loved the location. I don't know what the rate would be, but sure it should be below 100 BP.

Out of curiousity, how does one get free flights from RyanAir?

Priceline, as janisj suggests...

Believe it or not, they really do give them away some times (the latest promotion was advertised heavily in the paers here a weeks or so back). It's a loss leader in the sense that the publicity drums up extra business anyway and they can also make money from the ubiquitous extra charges for checked in luggage, food/drinks opn-board etc...
