cheap airfare to Italy September 2007

Any suggestions for a cheap airfare to Italy for September 2007? I want to fly into Rome and out of Venice, or viceversa. We live in South Florida

Also, do you think I am better off financially booking air and hotel separately or doing a package. If package, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Clau

Hi C,

Check www.kayak.com for open-jaw.

I would fly into Venice. I think that you get better schedules out of Rome.

The only way to find out if a package is better than separate bookings is to price them.

I always find the roundrip ticket is cheaper than 2 one-ways. You may want to choose one, then take a train or flight back.

Sorry, Brenda, This would not be booked as two one-ways. This would be booked as open jaw. (Some airline sites use the term multi-city.) I've found that such bookings cost no more, or slightly more than round trip from one city, and the time savings is well worth the extra money.

I agree with Ira, fly into Venice and out of Rome. Many of the Venice flights out leave VERY early in the morning leaving you with a problem of how to get to the airport at an extremely early hour.
How cheap is cheap? What have you found and what do you consider cheap? There are $1000 flights out there right now.
How many stops do you want? Would you take 2-3 to save 100-200 bucks?

Packages are usually cheaper, but I like to pick my hotels.

I got this email yesterday concerning an italy package. Its for the first week in October. I find this unbelievably cheap.

You can also look into flying into London or Dublin and then flying Ryan Air to Italy. They often have flights from $10-$50 one way to Italy. They currently have one way to Rome for $39.

Open Jaw (known as Multi City on most airline websites)flights might cost a bit more but that price is usually similar to what a round trip fare plus train fare back to the original city would be. Plus, you save time as you don't have to bother getting back to the original city.

I don't know about Italy but I have never found air + hotel package deals to be better priced than buying each individually. Packages offer a time saving for people who don't want to spend the time doing each separately. A problem with packages is that you will have a finite offering of hotels rather than the nearly infinite number of choices if you go it alone.
