Chauffer drive vs self drive?
We are planning a two week trip to ireland in late march/early april. We have been looking at the self-drive tours but have seen some tours (from Sceptre and a few other companies) that offer chauffer/guide drivers that cost very little more. This sounds good because we won't get lost or have to worry about driving and we won't be on a big tour bus. But it also seems strange to think of having a third person around for the entire trip. Does anyone have any experience with one of these tours? How did the driver work out? Thanks!

We opted for the chauffer and could not have been more pleased. No worry about driving, parking, directions, picking up or dropping off the vehicle. In addition, the chauffer was able to provide the inside scoop on sights and attractions, knew when to go where to avoid crowds, dropped us off closer to entrances than we could have otherwise done, etc. The theoretical charm of driving in a foreign land (on the "wrong side" of often narrow, winding, rocky roads with poor signage) is vastly over rated. Go for the chauffer!!

Try it--it frees you up. Especially in Ireland, where most people have a wonderful way with words, and you'll probably get that bonus.

Do you have any information on these chauffer services?

Hi! We will be in Ireland at the end of June. We are hesitant about renting a car and the chauffer/guide drivers sound perfect. Does anyone know where I can get more information about this??

Thanks - Marie
