Chateaux to stay in in east Loire Valley

We will be in Loire valley end of August, and want to make a point of staying in a chateaux. After first three days of staying in Chinon we are moving to the east side of the valley and are looking for a good base to stay in, which will be a chateaux, not far from an interesting town (Amboise, Blois?). I see some suggestions on the forum, but maybe can get some more advice.

I can't help you with a personal recommendation for accommodation as I didn't stay in one, but I do like the selection at www.chateauxhotels.com if you want to check. There is also the more well-known group www.relaischateux.com

FYI chateaux is a plural word, you can't stay in "a chateaux". the x makes it plural, the singular is simply chateau. That is why if you look at the places to visit for tourism it will be the Chateau de Blois (not the Chateaux de Blois).

We stayed at the Chateau de Rochecotte in Langeais not too far from Chinon and on another trip at le Vieux Manoir in Amboise. Le Vieux Manoir is a former convent with beautiful room and a lovely garden, excellent breakfast. We enjoyed both stays very much. The Rochecotte is a full service hotel with swimming pool, terrace and gardens in the countryside with its own restaurant while Le Vieux Manoir is more of a B&B. Lots of restaurants in walking distance in Amboise. I would happily return to either one.

If you haven't made arrangements yet near Chinon I suggest Fontevraud l'Abbaye. It was formerly a convent supported by Henry II & Eleanor of Aquitaine who are both interred there along with Richard, their son, and his wife. A very interesting place to stay.
