Chateaus in Champagne region

I am looking for a suggestion for a chateau to stay at, at the end of June. Do you think that we need air-conditioning?

I would like to spend under $300.00 per night. Hopefully with breakfast included.

Thank you.
Alison

We loved Chateau Etoges. Beautiful gardens, atmospheric rooms and excellent restaurant.

Be sure to visit nearby Launois Winery with its fabulous museum and family-style tasting. The hotel concierge will be happy to make a reservation.

I forgot to add that you probably do not need air condition. We stayed at Etoges in mid-summer during warm and sunny days and never felt hot in this old building with metre-thick stone walls.

If you ask about AC, probably you need it.

Also, it is castles or chateaux.

If you use the french word, please use the correct plural, which is 'x' for words ending in 'eau'.

Chateaux, drapeaux, cadeaux ...

Traveller,

Any chance breakfast was included?? It looks beautiful!

traveller1959 Dec 29th, 2015 03:02 AM

Alison,

the website says breakfast is €18 p.p., but the breakfast is very good for French standards.

In France, room rates normally do not include breakfast.
Maybe you can try one of these booking machines to get a deal. Or you take breakfast in a café in the nearby village.

paris, a bit like paninis or pizzas ;-)

I plead guilty for Pizzas.

This past September we stayed for 3 nights here:

http://labriqueterie.fr/

It has a Michelin 1 star restaurant. Very short drive to Epernay - which also has a very nice Michelin 1 star restaurant:

And also this excellent restaurant in Epernay

Thanks Stu, I remembered the place but forgot its name.

Thank you all for you help!

We had lunch at La Briqueterie (it is more affordable than dinner) and it was excellent - it was a 6-course menu surprise.

The Relais et Chateaux are generally in the upper price range.

For 3- and 4-star castle hotels, look here:

http://www.chateauxhotels.com/

La Briqueterie is Relais et Chateaux, Etoges is Chateauxhotels.
