Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte by daylight or candlelight?
I am planning a short stay this September near Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte for a Saturday visit. I thought we should see the chateau by candlelight but a note in Fodor's France book says that readers have complained that the lower visibility from the candles doesn't do justice to the gardens or the interior rooms.
Does anyone have opinions about whether it's a better visit in daylight or candlelight? Thank you for any comments that will help my travel planning. Deborah

I have done both day and night. I would not do the evening dinner!
The evening that I went was really lovely. The gardens are all done by hand for lighting..don't know how they do it..there are so many! You can walk out thru the gardens.

Christina, I enjoy your practical comments about travel. Part of the allure of a candlelight visit is because it's not every chateau that offers such a romantic way to see a chateau through the softness of candlelight. I enjoy the Christmas luminaries in our area and thought this would probably give a really "over the top" luminary experience!!
However, for a first and possibly only visit to the chateau daylight will give us a more comprehensive visit.
Joan, I appreciate your comments about the dinner. That was one of the reasons I was planning a Saturday evening visit but the meal seems heavy on beef which I don't eat and the vegetarian option doesn't appeal.

The lighting was excellent in the chateau for the evening...surprisingly so. Since I have been to both, I do know how it is, and not guessing what it might be!I did think about the danger of a fire!
RE the dinner, I have heard that it can be crowded, not good service, etc....not what you might think it to be.
You will enjoy it whenever you go...I was taken to the evening by some French friends who prefer the evenings, or I might not have had the experience.
