Chateau de Chaumontel
 

Does anyone know what happened to this lovely chateau/hotel about 20 mi. north of Paris in Luzarches, not far from Chantilly? I spent Christmas there several years ago, and it was a real treat. The building had been a hunting lodge of the Prince of Conde, and the grounds were beautifiul, complete with a moat. A couple of years ago I tried to find it online, and got the message that it was closed for renovations, and now I can't find it at all.
What a shame if it no longer exists as a place to stay and relax in a chateau that evokes an earlier time.

We stayed her about 4 years ago and it was one of the worst stays we have had in Europe. Dirty, shappy edrooms. Truly rude waiters, receptionist and manager. It is a shame as this could be a beautiful hotel.

How sad; I suppose that's why it no longer exists. I was there in 1989, and it was a delightful place. Wonder what happened to the building?

The old lodge at Chateau Chaumontel is still there. But it is open seasonally not year round. Interesting fact about the lodge: in the fall of 1964, it was used as a filming location in the movie What's New Pussycat (starring Peter O'Toole, Peter Sellers, Woody Allen, and the beautiful Romy Schneider). Rent or buy the movie, the Chaumontel scene is near the end of the film. Anyway, the structure is still there and is open but only in season.

Another former happy visitor who regrets the apparent decline of this lovely place. Not only was it a treat by itself, but it's location within striking distance of CDG made it a perfect last night stay. Too bad.

Grandmere, if you're looking for a place to stay before a flight out of CDG, Ermenonville as an alternative. The family home of Rousseau is there and available for stays and dining. We loved it and helped some poster here plan her wedding there.

Mark, is there a new website for the Chateau? Have you been there recently?

JullieV, thanks for the info re Ermenonville. I posted b/c from time to time folks are looking for either a place near CDG or merely a nice place for an overnight from Paris. I looked online to make sure it still existed, and that's when I had trouble finding it.

No, not THAT WoodyAllen. Good news: Chateau de Chaumontel still stands. My wife and I have wonderful memories of a five day stay there in the mid 90s. Bad news: it is no longer a hotel. It is now a conference/party/celebration center. I just located it's new web site this past Sunday. Interesting, but as you say, bad news for most of us who won't be planning a large event there. It was such a lovely place.
