Chartres via Chateau de Maintenon from Paris Logistics
 

Has anyone done this? I am wanting to stop off at Chateau de Maintenon on my way to Chartres. If I buy a train ticket straight through to Chartres can I hop off of the train to see the chateau then hop back on another train and continue on to Chartres?

No, you can't hop off a train and hop on another one. You have to have proper ticketing every time you board a train.

Just so you know, the train station in Maintenon is about 1.5km+/- from the downtown and the château. If you want to go buy a ticket from Paris to Maintenon and another from there to Chartes. It's the same price and there's no time limit so you can use them on any train. In other words, they are open tickets and you are not restricted to a certain train time.

Are you saying there are no open tickets any more in France as there always has been on regional trains - i am under the impression if you have say a Paris-Chartres ticket you can stop off and board a later train with no problem?

Thanks everyone, I will just try and fingure it out once I am there, hopefully the ticket seller will know some english as my french is quite poor.

Those trains are regional trains with no reservations required or maybe even possible - a flat fare system where with one ticket TMK you can get on and off anywhere en route for that day you start the ticket - maybe St Cirq knows this policy to have changed but I am with that understanding - some at Gare Montparnasse should speak enough English to ask about that - if push come to shove go to the Eurail Help windows at the station and surely someone will explain it all to you.

but I guess the save bet is to do like FrenchMystiqueTours says and buy two separate tickets since the total price will be the same.

More than likely someone will speak English at the ticket counter but if they don't the safe bet is to definitely buy two tickets since it's the same price.
