Chartres travel question

Hey there!

I am planning on visiting Chartres from Paris in a week. I was just wondering whether it is feasible to buy a train ticket at the station in Paris (Gare Montparnasse) and in Chartres on the way back, or if I should buy them ahead of time on Eurorail or something.

Thanks!

You can easily buy a ticket at the train station--and more cheaply, too.

We went in February and bought the tickets at the station. I had taken a print out of train times with me, and we purchased on the spot.

We really loved Chartres. The older part of the town and the walks along the river were great, as was the cathedral. I would go back in a minute. If you have time, try to get a map of the town and take a long walk.

No, you don't need to buy tickets ahead of time. But "I was just wondering whether it is feasible to buy a train ticket at the station in Paris . . . and in Chartres on the way back" -- you do not need to buy a ticket at the station in Chartres. You will get a round trip ticket in Paris and it covers both trips.

You can buy a map of Chartres at the train station in Chartres. Well at least you could when we were there.

There really isn't any reason to buy short train tickets like that ahead of time. You can buy both departure and return in Paris, but you won't automatically get a roundtrip ticket (which is really two separate tickets, not one) unless you ask for one.
