Chartres help

I'm going to be in Chartres this Sunday. I've been to France (mostly Paris) several times. I've even been to Chartres before. Here's my question, some of our greatest meal memories in France are Sunday lunches surrounded by locals having a family outing. I am looking for that kind of restaurant in Chartres. We speak passable French, so that's not an issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated, the only restaurant I've seen online that seems to fit the bill is Buisson Ardent.

Also, does anyone know what the Mass schedule is at the Cathedral on Sundays?

<<does anyone know what the Mass schedule is at the Cathedral on Sundays?>>

It seems like this answer would be easier to find than this, but if all else fails, the web site http://www.diocesechartres.com/cathedrale/index.html seems to invite you to make contact at:

Service Accueil-Visites de la Cathédrale
Tel : 02 37 21 75 02 (+ 33 2 37 21 75 02)
Fax : 02 37 36 51 43 (+ 33 2 37 36 51 43)
Email : [email protected]

And maybe no better place to dine than http://www.maison-st-yves.com - - Maison Saint Yves, l'hôtellerie du diocèse de Chartres.

Best wishes,

Rex
Mac--
I don't know the mass schedule, but when I was in Chartres several years ago, a great family-type restaurant with authentic Normandy style cooking, right on the main city square, was the Normand. You might give it a try; it is probably still there.

Does anyone know if that British gentleman still gives those wonderful tours of the cathedral? (at noon, I think) I cannot remember his name, but he taught us so much about the glass and the architecture and the sculpture. I hope he is still around.

Yes Maclcom Miller still gives the tours and well worth the nominal cost. Also, if you go out the side door just across the street is a very nice small place run by a man and his wife that will serve you a wonderful meal at reasonable cost...and you can enjoy their very friendly dog at the same time. A very nice local type place.

For info on Mr. Miller, see the site at
http://www.artagogo.com/commentary/miller/miller.htm

I found a good source for hotels and restaurants from Ess
http://www.1heart.com/chartresadvice.html

I echo the recommendation to join Malcom's guide group. He is the best. His book is a beauty too and is for sale there. Enjoy!

Mr Miller also will stay around the book store for a while after the tour to autograph his book if you want him to. We had him sign ours and it is a wonderful reminder of his tour and the wonderful cathedral and its glass.
