Charming Rome hotel, a little help please?

OK, first of all I'm not going to spend over $250 a night - we are already splurging in Positano and Tuscany and want to save a few bucks for great wines, so please keep the suggestions to moderate price ranges. I know the Hassler is fab, but I'm not a billionaire, so, can anyone offer some suggestions? I like charm, my BIL loves the San Anselmo in the Aventine but of course, like everything else that is nice and well priced on this trip, it's booked. I guess that's what happens when you book 5 weeks before traveling.

Anyhow, I'd love to get this booked by tomorrow as I'm leaving for a cruise on Saturday. Can any of you fine Fodorites offer any gems? If you can tear yourselves away from the Paris bashing, I'd truly appreciate it.

Thanks much, and it's good to be back.

-Nina, Charter Fodorite who's been laying low for a few years.

Hi Nina,

We recently returned from 8 days in Rome where we stayed at the Dei Mellini hote, a 4 star hotel in a good location. I can't say enough of the service and the facilities. WE had a deluxe double for a rate of Euros 210 which we received by e-mailing the hotel directly( this rate is much lower that what they quote in their website. For my review( and others) on this hotel go to www.tripadvisor.com. I'll try to find their website address and post it .

I recommend the Barrocco at Piazza Barberini. Very clean, wonderful breakfasts and near everything.

Welcome back Nina, How could one ignore such a plea? Look at these:

www.albergocesari.it
www.romeby.com/mozart
and,Residenza Farnese--search to find

All are good locations. Buon viaggio !

Thanks so much everyone, I'm off to do some internet searches, I knew you wouldn't let me down.

If I finish early, I may even have time to join in on the fun Paris threads..how did I stay away so long?
