GAJawhawks, I'm not sure what "airside" refers to but since your son is flying into France, on wards in France and not going into another country, as janisj said "why muddy the water"? I know everyone wants to help with their input but at some point the original question can/may get bogged down in irrelevant info.
Try not to overthink this and most of your concerns regarding his flight can be addressed by a quick phone call to the airlines. I hope your son has a great trip and enjoys his visit to France.

He made it to Toulouse safe and sound! His flight landed at CDG early at about 10:30 am. By the time I texted him (around 11:15 am) he was already at the gate for his flight to Toulouse. So the info you all gave me was correct- passport control at CDG and customs in Toulouse. He was at his hosts' house by 3. Easy peasy. Thank you all for the guidance for this nervous mom. I can relax now.

I'm not nyt but airside means the part of the airport that you can only get into by going through security or out of through customs. the part that is open to the public who aren't flying is land side.

GAJayhawks--I think it is great that you all know to ask questions before you go. It was super that his connecting flight was practically next door, too.

I just flew to London (non-Schengen) to Copenhagen (Schengen) a month ago,had to go through customs, and then security to get to my flight to CPH and did not know about these procedures that are due to Schengen/non-schengen transits and thought other travelers might be interested.
